if turning the key to off doesnt kill it, either you have some electrical problems or plugs that are way too hot. If its the first, they may be contributing to running rich too. Usually if an apex seal is gone, trying to kill the engine is not the problem... its keeping it running thats the challenge.

Ya it sounds to me like you are running extremly rich. What color smoke is it?

Can you see anywhere in the engine bay, any new wiring thats been done?

I have no problem turning the car off.

I just have a problem starting it.

A HUGE blue cloud of smoke every time.

The car runs really rich I can smell it.

The car just gives me problems when it is cold.

It pulls hard when it is warmed up.

I have no clue what to do.

To me that says its not an apex seal. Don't jump to conclusions too quick. You should probably check the compression anyway to see what condition its in. It sounds like it's flooding bad. The injectors are probably pretty leaky. You can get the injectors cleaned professionally for not too much money.

I would start by doing general maintenance. New plugs, change the oil (look in the oil to see if there are any big metal flakes), new fuel filter (even though a clogged filter doesn't seem likely), check and adjust the TPS and the ignition timing, visually check over all the wiring and the vacuum hoses to make sure nothing is weird there. Hmmmm, thats all I can think of off hand. All of that won't cost very much, and even if it doesn't fix it, it sure as hell won't hurt.

Good Luck

Andy

thanks everyone.

I am glad it doesn't sound like low compression.

leaky injectors yes.

no metal flakes in my oil.

just trouble shooting then.

Now every time I start it, it blows smoke and will not keep idle.

This is the only piece of evidence you've given us. There is no possible way anyone can make a diagnosis based on this alone. So until you provide any additional information (ie, color of smoke, compression test numbers, video of the car running, anything), it might be best for you to ignore what other people say about what your problem is.

If you're this quick to accept what someone says is wrong, you might just want to take it to an actual mechanic.
