Distinguishing Marks For Lsd
I know that on some Nissan 240s that they have orange stickers to distinguish the difference between open diffs and LSDs. I was wondering if there was another such mark on RX-7s. I want to do a 5 lug swap, but I want to put an LSD on at the same time. It would have to be an S4 LSD though because I don't want the viscous stuff.
For example, there is this S4 5 lug in the junkyard near my school, and other than turning the wheels, I was wondering how I could tell if it was an LSD or not.

The s4 have the metal tag on the fill plug that says Limited slip Diff on it, the S5 doesnt. The tag may be missing though, so thats not a definate. Find out what year and model it is , and then we will be able to tell you from there. Or as Vosko said, crack it open and see. I know on torsen and viscous units, if you take the axles out and look through the diff, you should be able to see clearly through. If it is an open, a bar for the spider gear will be blocking the view. Im not sure if this is true on clutch types though.. ( I did, but I forget..
