I know that on some Nissan 240s that they have orange stickers to distinguish the difference between open diffs and LSDs. I was wondering if there was another such mark on RX-7s. I want to do a 5 lug swap, but I want to put an LSD on at the same time. It would have to be an S4 LSD though because I don't want the viscous stuff.
For example, there is this S4 5 lug in the junkyard near my school, and other than turning the wheels, I was wondering how I could tell if it was an LSD or not. |
there is usually a tag attached to the fill/drain plug, it says Mazda LSD.. Blah.blah.

take it out and look at it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

The s4 have the metal tag on the fill plug that says Limited slip Diff on it, the S5 doesnt. The tag may be missing though, so thats not a definate. Find out what year and model it is , and then we will be able to tell you from there. Or as Vosko said, crack it open and see. I know on torsen and viscous units, if you take the axles out and look through the diff, you should be able to see clearly through. If it is an open, a bar for the spider gear will be blocking the view. Im not sure if this is true on clutch types though.. ( I did, but I forget.. :p:)
