hey. ive been looking at this black fc for sale near me. the owner of the car says the car wont run. she says last summer the car ran rough and made black smoke. than she ran the car a month this year but then it wont start anymore. the car has 145k mi and doesnt look like it was run very hard at all. it looks babied to me. you think it could be an apex seal?

lemme know as soon as you can, i want to buy it. i just need it to run for a short time until i can finish getting the money for a turbo II engine swap.

(by the way can you use the n/a transmission on the turboII engine? like, is there any problems bolting it up? thanks)

Nice FC's are harder and harder to fine. I'd say if you buy it plan on replacing the motor, just from the miles alone it may be time. Black smoke is usually too much fuel. The trans will bolt up but the T2 uses a larger flywheel and clutch, so I'm not sure a N/A trans will work. The Turbo trans is definately stronger.

I say if she isnt asking too much for it (like under 1k) to jump on it as is before anyone else can. Especially if you plan to replace the engine with T2. The engine swap should already come with the transmission and everything else. Ebay usually has a complete swap for right around 1-1.2k. I think Jarcoinc or Jhot are usually the ones who sell on ebay. You might find someone selling a setup for pretty cheap on here also, just lurk around who knows you might get lucky.

Do a compression test, for all you know the engine could just be flooded. Black smoke could just mean leaky fuel injectors.

If you're not familiar with the procedure for a compression test, it's quite simple. Compression tester is fairly cheap ($20 or less), you remove a spark plug, screw in the compression tester, remove the EGI fuse, and have someone crank the engine over. Hold down the pressure release valve on the tester, and watch for 3 even bounces. Then do the same for the other rotor.

You might be able to get a perfectly running car for cheap, you can never know for sure without doing a compression check.

If you think it might be flooded with fuel, remove the spark plug, remove the fuse, and crank it over a few times to clear out any fuel (if it's flooded bad, it can make it seem like there is no compression).

i might try it this weekend. my dad has a compression tester.

shes sellin it for 1k but i can drop it down lower than that, then i found the swap with everything for like 1450 shipped online sumwhere. me, my dad, and this other guy are going to put it in, if they want to help me out...if not i gotta find some mechanics in mass that could help! im tryin to avoid spending too much. do any of you know anyone that could help me out?

and what do u recommend that i do to get it running after the compression test? if it doesnt crank over wat should i do?

sorry about the massive list of questions, but one more thing.

should i go for a jdm t2 w/ usdm harness, or just a usdm thanks guys.

well i have found many fc's with non running (or no) engines for like way less than shes asking. but hers looks like its in really good condition on the exterior. like i dont see any rust. the interior is great as well other than the steering wheel. im attaching pics.

ok disregard those last posts. heres my game plan.

im droppin the idea of the t2 swap. jus gonna turbo the n/a. i figure that would be a lot easier on my pockets.

and i dont have to worry about the n/a engine, because....

someone on here is sellin a 90kmi n/a engine and tranny for 550. if i get that, i can jus drop the motor in no problem. i can do it in a day. and i have a tranny i can sell along with it

also. i have a running vert i can buy instead. the only problem is that it heats up too quickly. i can drive it home, and then i can swap the engine in. i wont have to worry about goin out of state (with the other fc) and i wont worry about towing because it runs!

so after all of it is done, i spend 1000 on the car, DRIVE it home, get the engine & put it in, and now i have a well running vert. easy as pie

im very close to 1500 too.

Wait, so you're going to buy a vert, buy an engine and tranny, then put a turbo on? I'm confused.

yeah, basically put. the vert is running, so id rather have that. but its a problem im not to familiar with (water jacket???) so im gonna buy the n/a engine, then port it, THEN im gonna turbo it. id rather do that then travel to conneticut to pick up a non runnin hatch and tow it. u get wat i mean? it would be a lot easier on my wallet.

btw, do you know what a water jacket is? is it another name for the coolant paths in the housing or something?

Not to be antagonistic, but if you can't solve a simple overheating problem (could be as simple as the t-stat), how do you plan on porting and turboing an n/a motor?
