A/c On 86 Gsl No Worky. Texas Heat Killing Me.
For some reason the AC relay keeps busting on my car. There's still a charge (but not much) in the lines and the compressor clutch works, but for some reason the A/C controls inside the cabin won't turn the compressor on.
The A/C was non functional when I bought the car 4 years ago, but it took replacing the relay for a nice charge of $250.00. Does anyone know where I can find this relay or can I just put in a generic one? Or is there something else electrical I'm looking over..

There is an internal pressure cutoff, if there isn't enough charge in it, the cutoff will diconnect the clutch. So, maybe oh hotter days, the internal gsas pressure gets high enough to trigger it, but not always. You can jumper the clutch wire to +12V while the engine is running and see if it stays running for maybe 20 minutes. If it does (and is blowing somewhat cold air), then it's either too low pressure, or bad wiring between the switch and clutch wire.
