Buying A New Rx-7
#1
Ok im buying an new RX7 cause the auto tranny on my 88 SE died. Well I know this guy that is selling an 86 RX-7 It is blue but one thing I noticed is that it is 5 Lug does that mean it is a GLX it also dosent have a sun roof? I want it but the owner said that it hasent been started in almost 1 year. Anything that I should when i go start it tomorrow? Should I do the ATF Trick, Change the sparkplugs? any info would help. He also told me that the car drives but it sends too much fuel in and fouls the spark plugs, a mechanic that is like a step father to me told me that it is the AFM. It runs then after a bit it turns off. Im going tomorrow with the AFM of my RX-7 and my battery to turn that sucker on and get me a $350 2nd Gen RX7 well the second sub $500 RX7. If it is bad I got my engine of my RX-7 that is in awesome condition take it out rebuild it with S5 rotors and add a little turbo
Any info would help.

There are 3 86 models I know of.. base, GXL, and sport. The GXL gets confused with the sport model for this year. Both have 5 lug but the GXL should have power windows too (at least), maybe also cruise control and AAS. The sport should have the little black rear spoiler, the GXL doesn't if I remember right... not sure about the sunroof but my sport had one, I believe it was an option on the sport and standard on the GXL

yeah it does have a little black spoiler on the back. It has manual windows and manual locks. Ok look the car cranks over but it does not start. I pulled out the spark plugs and had my sis crank it and it seems to have good compresion it blows plenty air out. Now I dont think it is getting any fuel. I looked at it while it was cranking you can hear the bursts of air but you should be able to see something come out. I put my hand to feel the air coming out and I did not smell any fuel on the air coming out. Is there any way I can be sure if it is getting fuel? I also put a spark tester that I have to the traling spark plug wire and it does not fire the leading does but the trailing one only fires once i stop cranking the engine like alot it sounds like a stun gunafter i stop cranking. Is it me that im used to the sound of my FC starting up but this FC the sound seems a little bit stronger???? like my fc when i crank it it sounds like wimpy and thes one sounds like stronge??? im getting the car for $350 and the auto tranny blew on my 88 so I was going to transfer over all the stuff it needs to the new one.
BTW: If I take the motor out of my 88 SE can I rebuild it with S5 NA rotors?

take it easy man, most people just don't know LIKE ME
but here is some basic stuff you should be able to check for this fuel ordeal:
-listen to the fuel pump and injectors make sure they are working or test the voltage and check the fuses
-check fuel pressure with a guage (if you have a vac guage, you can verify the FPR is receiving vacuum so you know the solenoid isnt fucked) and then hook up a real pressure tester guage to the fuel rail
And the S5 rotors should work as long as you use the front and rear counterweights...
I'm not positive though.
