You can upgrade to either an S5 alt or an S6 (FD) alternator. The FD alt is supposedly rated at 100 amps, but a guy on the forum is currently selling them for $150 and most are testing well above that. Check out the 2nd gen for sale section of the "other" forum. He'll hook you up with everything you need, including the pulley and adapter.

I had put in a massive 1000 CCA battery, but I think it might have put too much strain on the alternator. Jumping another car with the engine on also puts too much load on your alternator--do it with the engine off.
hey what kind of battery is that. The optima i just bought has 920 ca [/quote]

I would think its a Exide1000, they used to be good until they were bought out, now they suck in my opinion. Cannot go wrong with a DieHard Gold from sears, has the longest warranty and 3 year replacement, might even be 4 years now. Over 900 cranking amps.

It was an Interstate. (Or was it 1000 A and 850 CCA? Hmm...) I'd seriously not get it though. It was bloody heavy and with that much weight that far out, and you sitting on the same side, you'll notice a big difference between left handers and right handers on an autocross course.

If you must have it, ask Interstate what's the biggest one they can cram into your car, and it'll be just like the elephant and the pig having sex on South Park. That vivid enough?

Optima batteries are fine if they are never allowed to die. They lose 20% of their full charging capacity everytime they die, meaning a dead battery 5 times means a trip to the store for another, they do not recover, trust it, ive been through many...
