note on wire..... the higher the strand count, the easier voltage flows, in laymens terms... you want lots of small wires as opposed to a few big wires in the wire braiding

Will it be ok if: I run a wire from the + on the Batt to the altenator.... than from the - on the batt to the chassis? I shouldnt run into any problems... hopefully

note on grounds.. most body, and some engine, grounds on rx-7's have the paint under the conector on the body... if you remove it you get a stronger ground. I did this, as well as added a alt to + wire and a ground to the lug by the coil pack closest to the firewall,it looks the same as the one on the back of the motor also one to the stud for the AC by the plugs for stronger spark. My volt meter jumped from barely 12 to just under the line above 12

Awesome. I'll try it out this weekend. I guess i'll just buy some thick battery guage wire and some correct connectors and go crazy. I mean.. Not to crazy

But i guess adding grounds can't hurt. lol. The AC mount lug obviouslt sounds like a good one.

And adding spark never hurts either. Like i said. I'll try it out over the weekend. Any Certain type of wire guage i should use? THanks.

I've gone through my fair share of alternators up here in Canada and here are some tips on how they go bad etc:

If your tach sounds like a bee at idle, your alternator's going to fail low--the dash lights start to dim when the load increases (headlights on, wiper, defroster, etc.) and eventually your warning lights will come on at idle, then higher, then kaput! (This could all take a few months.)

I had put in a massive 1000 CCA battery, but I think it might have put too much strain on the alternator. Jumping another car with the engine on also puts too much load on your alternator--do it with the engine off.

If you suddenly hear a tick, look down at your dash lights and see if they're extremely bright. The alternator is failing high. The tick, by the way, is the voltmeter needle being pegged. It'll do it occasionally.

hey my alternator belt broke off a week ago and havnt had a chance to fix it until this sunday. Then by one belt being broken it lead to me buying all new good year belts, a 151 peice tool set from Craftsmen, Genuine mazda fuel filter, a new Optima Battery, new battery terminals, and battery grease to help with the power, and new NGK spark plugs and NGK wireset which has now set me back $300.00++ in what started as a $5.29 alternator belt. Things can get so carried away. ( SO INADVERTINALY I AM DOING A TUNE UP WHEN I JUST WANTED TO DRIVE TO MC DONALDS TO GET A BIG MAC)

I thought my battery was bad but the eingine was flooded so ill let u know how it goes tomorow morining. If that doesnt werk i think im going to wind up getting an ALternator there goes another $150.00

Hey RX7 i still love ya!

What about a different Altenator all together. I hear the S4 altenators push around 70 amps. I am running an E-fan which pulls around 20 amps all together. How about putting on a S5 altenator. It pushes around 90 amps from what i hear. Will this work? any modifications i would have to do to mount the s5 alt on my car? I just would like to see my charging problems gone.
