i would think the fire is the battery trying to pass current thru the ebrake cables, it shouldnt be doing that.

it could be a bad turbo or something on the manifold burning. Does it smoke everytime you start it and let it run?

If the car has been sitting a while, I wouldn't worry too much. How much have you let the car run?

When I first started mine, it would heat up and smoke like crazy from the area around the turbo. Scared the **** out of me. After getting brave and letting the car run a while, it finally stopped. I believe it was a mixture of oil, brake fluid (leaking from the ABS pump) and nutshells left by furry woodland creatures.

I would check to make sure all the hose and pipe connections are tight and stand by with a fire extinguisher.

i noticed when my car sat for a while and we used A TON of PB blaster on the car so my guess is there was a bunch of chemicals sitting down on the manifold which burned off eventualy... but dont forget if the motor has been sitting and just finaly got it running its not gonna be in the greatest condition so carbon is going to need to be burned out of it...
