I recently (as in tonight) purchased a 90' model turbo. I will have to take some pics tomorrow when it is light out. This car has been sitting in the previous owners front yard for 2 years now. All 4 sides are covered and stained by grass where the lawnmower has peppered it for 2 summers now. The person who owned it before the guy I bought it off of did alot of mods to it, most of which I dont think the guy I bought it off of even knew about. Supposedly it was used for auto-x many years ago however I cannot prove that. I did immediatley notice it was sitting alot lower than normal, and had a tociko sticker on the side window. Also it has some sort of rather large diameter single side exit exhaust on it. After opening the hood I immediatley noticed an HKS bov, as well as what I believe to be an HKS air intake. We bs'd around a tad, an he told me what few things he did know about the car.. most of which were obvious to anyone with some performance part knowledge. He did mention that the previous owner before him told him the orig motor had been replaced for the newly rebuilt cosmo motor in which it currently has, and that he ran the #### on the motor and that's what he came up with as well. How true this is im not sure, however I plan to investigate this further. Also I was informed that it is equipped with "some sort of big aftermarket turbo i dono". Truth to this im not sure of either, I shall have to do some investigating. The intake manifold I guess you would call it appears to have been polished to a chrome-like finish long ago and is now oxodized looking. Some but it appears to not be all vacuum lines have been replaced with silicone ones. the interior is completely stock, has some sort of nice looking (for 1990) stock head unit. The sunroof pops up and slides back on it's own power which still amazes me. Windows both work, the rear cover is still there, basically the interior is untouched.

The gas im sure is bad, it smells exceptionally bad, and im sure the oil isnt in the greatest shape. Besides the obvious (change oil, filter, drain gastank, change fuel filter, change plugs, brakepads and rotors) what else should I do to this poor vehicle before I start running it?

Any thing I should change or check besides the above mentioned?

put some 2 stroke in the intake or spark plugs holes and lube the inside of the motor, its sure to be dry by now.

If it is a 13bre(cosmo motor) you could tell by the intake manifold.

Same with the turbo, does it look factory? A good way to tell would be is if it is on a aftermarket exhaust manifold.

You could also check the clutch and brake hydrolics

A good place for refrence is fc3spro.com

Post some underhood pictures. We can tell you what motor and turbo you have.

Besides the mentioned maintence, after you get it running I would replace the vacuum and fuel lines.

I just got it cleaned up, had to spray it down w/Westle Bleach White an let it sit, spray it down again, then hose it off, then hand wash it with actual carwash. Some friend helped me push it into the garage an we got the hood off of it. As soon as I locate my camera I'll post up some pics. Yea I kinda figured fuel lines would be a good idea to replace. Seems alot of the vacuum lines have been replaced with yello silicone lines but I have noticed 1 just as soon as we got the hood off that goes nowhere an has a bolt in the end of it. Also the air intake tube has plugs ect. in it here an there, im not sure if that is to compensate for the BOV venting into the atmosphere or not. I have heard you have to do osme sort of modification to vent it into the atmosphere instead of routing it from it's orig position but I dono. You know how it is with Rotarys, 1 out of 10 ppl actually know what they are talking about, but the other 9 will swear to the story theyre making up.

Thank you for your help so far by the way.. I would say I may need more in the not so distant future.

Ok here's what I have so far as of tonite (2am);

After pulling the fuelpump an draining the tank, cleaning the sock on the fuelpump an putting the assembly back in, I changed the fuel filter and put 5gal of gas in it. I pulled off the intercooler and piping to it, took off the air intake and cleaned the elbows up inside a bit. Found a few vacuum lines which were kinked off and replaced those. Drained the oil, replaced w/20w50 and changed the filter. Pulled the plugs, poured some 2stroke oil in both front and rear plug holes, replaced plugs w/new NGK's. Put everything back together the way it was when I received it. After killing a battery and having to jump it, it started!

It wont idle on its own, you have to give it gas. Also it snaps/pops some when you hold the idle at say 5k. As soon as you let off of it, it dies. Im sure it's some vacuum problems. Which also explains the abundance of plugged off vacuum lines I have. Here is a somewhat fuzzy pic I took w/my phone just a little bit ago. As soon as I get it running properly this yello tubing is getting trashed for normal black I hate it.

With what I believe to be the Air Control Valve and the BAC Valve removed what do I do with the vacuum lines that go to them? I am assuming that is what has been deleted.. There are 2 places on the side of the intake blocked off.

Nah I couldnt find my cam so I used my phone. I'll take pics on monday, I will away at the superbike races at mid-ohio all weekend. And yea I seen the BOV was a Blitz.

Are all the missing components which the vacuum lines im supposing hook up to what is making it not idle or run properly?

You can find a FSM online here to help with the vaccum lines and such.

Vaccum leaks would be my guess as to why its running like that, if you redo and fix everything and its still not running right I would look at the intake gaskets, TPS and BAC to make sure they are set properly

I can see the BAC in that picture, its on the top manifold. It has a hose going to and from it, its that round black clyinder. The ACV and EGR are most likely gone. If the car won't hold an idle, and dies when you let off you have a very large vacuum leak. That car looks scary, I would go through the entire engine bay and fix all that ghetto work.
