Anyone have good experiences with particular ECU? Excluding Microtech, I know they work, I just hate the ignition maps: Interpolating 2Dmaps look like a poo way to tune to me, I prefer a 3D table which I can enter values. Also, I prefer to have a split map or separate leading and trailing maps, as it makes better drivability I find

Threfore, I am looking at:

M600 Motec - Expensive, but works well

EMS Stinger - Inexpensive, but no split supported. Leading and trailing fire together. I emailed about 8860 and they dont support rotary on that ECU eben though it is the "Motorsport" one.

Microtech LT12s - Will work but am not a fan of them.

Haltech E11v2 - Have used them... not a big fan but might go that way yet.

Have yet to check out Wolf3D, and a few others.

Any suggestions?

The car in question is a series1 RX7, all mounts and FD Gearbox are in, doing driveshaft at moment, then fuel system and ECU... then skids!

running NA, A series block (number 666 lol) and will PP it when it goes pop. Not likely to turbo it due to being A series.

Thanks.

I'm using the Haltech E11 v2. It was recommended by Gotham Racing and it works really well. I didn't do the install on this but my understanding is it's not too difficult. Good support and maps are also available.

Had the Wolf 3D but don't go this route. Although the unit is very easy to use, zero (and I mean zero) support is available in the US. Most tuners don't work much with the Wolf either.

My advice to you would be to find a good tuner for the car and go with whatever he recommends. That's pretty much what it comes down to. And I'd also have the car professionally tuned. Makes a world of difference.

EFI / Stand-alone ECUs

There are a number of stand-alone ECU systems out there that can fire and control a 20B 3-rotor engine. Mazda went with an independent trailing split to decrease emissions. With that said and done, let us analyze out options.

If you do use the stock ECU, at minimum you're required to use the stock Cosmo 20B coil packs, which are not very easy to find. On "front cuts", they should be intact, but most imported 20B's do not have them. The Cosmo 20B coil packs are normally mounted on the fender area, so they are not usually included with just the 20B long block.

FYI - if you need coil packs, I have six GM LS1 coils available. They are an upgrade to the stock 20B coils and provide more spark. PM if interested.

If you do decide to go Haltech or have any questions concerning the Haltech drop me a note.

We are running the Electromotive TEC3 6/12 in our shop's peripheral port 20B 3-rotor FC and have had nothing but success with it. We run 6 LS1 coils for ignition (split ignition works, BTW), 3 primary and 3 secondary gasoline fuel injectors, as well as 3 methanol fuel injectors. This is a pretty extreme application and the car runs perfect with this engine management system and the tune we've given it. We recently installed a TEC 3R (fewer outputs) in a customers first gen after swapping in a 20B, and it runs like a factory car, except with twice the power. The Electromotive units can control the most wild setups, or the most tame setups. Take a look at their systems! www.getfuelinjected.com
