That's no problem because I got my welder today! I practiced on a couple large nails (8 to 10mm diameter) laid side by side and filled in the valley between them pretty well (after I started to figure out the wire feed speed and power settings of course).

So to get back to the point of your post, I no longer need to try to get it running outside the car with the stock turbos acting as mufflers because I can now finally get to working on the exhaust. That-is, after the tranny tunnel is finished (if welding sheet metal is even possible with this machine).

Hmm, I'll need to practice on some sheet metal. Who'd like to volunteer their 7?

What machine is it?

I run #1 tap on the lowest wirespeed posible with .023 wire and use 75/25 gas to weld sheetmetal

It's a cheapo no-name machine. Here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=2555115102

It's only a 90 amp one.Keep it down to about half or so.Try practicing the welding on some spare sheet metal tho.You don't want to burn a hole thru it.Its a pain to fix.I should know.I fix ****-ups daily.

It's been a little slow, as have I.

I got those waterpump washers yesterday. I also picked up an FC alternator bracket. My bro finally mailed me his 1/2" impact wrench so I won't need to buy one (that is if it's man-enough to remove 54mm nuts). It should get here on Thursday. Hmm what else? Oh yeah, I showed another person the engine bay of the GLC and I'm also hooking up DLIDFIS using three GM HEI ignitors on a rotary powered B2000.

I've been busy, but I think I'll make some good progress next week. I'll update this thread from time to time.

I was looking at the specs of my machine and it said that it could use .023 welding wire. I'm not sure if it comes in flux core though. I guess all I'd have to do is flip over the little roller thing because I think it has a smaller indentation than the one that's currently driving the .30 (the box says .8mm) wire.

If you have to weld ovhead from under the car make sure to run flux cored wire.It makes life so much easier. Not too mention less burns for you.My hands have quite a few from work already.
