20b In A Glc
It was on topic enough for me lol. (my avatar)
I hooked a bellhousing to the 20B today and tested the FC starter on the new flywheel. It spun pretty fast! Lots of wooshing sounds and wonderful MMO breath was coming out the exahust ports.
One bad thing is the slave cylinder doesn't fit with the 20B's upper bellhousing threaded hole. I know if I were to use a '79 or later tranny, it would fit fine. I'm like d'oh! Well, I have a dremel tool. Should I have dremel, will travel on its ***? Hmm...
I also called RB today and asked about using their pressure and temperature block with their filter blockoff together on Cosmo and FD engines, and he said it's probably not a good idea to drill through the press/temp block. He also said he's never tried this combo on an FD or Cosmo engine, and didn't know of anyone who had. I'm on my own. He did agree with me that enlarging the 3/8" holes in the filter blockoff wouldn't hurt anything. It may not help much, as it's under pressure when running, but at least it won't hurt. I'm short on time, so I won't do it right now. Maybe tomorrow.

Some stuff came up today so I won't be able to work on the engine.
It's the one threaded bellhousing hole on the 20B that doesn't match my tranny. It's up in the way of the slave cylinder.
Adaptor? Are you talking about the one with an oil filter on it? I can't use that one.

Yeah, I think the compression will be good now. I'll have to crank it with the plugs in to find out.
I don't have an angle grinder, so I'll tote my bench grinder around for a while trying to grind that area down. It would take less time than a dremel, but might be harder to control, or maybe not. I'll have to try it and see.

Man, so many things keep popping up. I seriously doubt that I'll get this done in time for sevenstock. Whew, that takes the pressure off! Now that that's out of the way, I'm free to work at my own pace, and who knows... I may get lucky time-wise and actually get it done before sevenstock afterall. I just wanted to let you all know.
And now back to the project. I think I'll just update this thread from time to time when I've gotten something done. That's kinda how 75 Repu has been handling his progress thread.
I'd like to get the engine running at least by Tuesday because my bro is moving. He's actually leaving early Wednesday, but anyway, I thought it would be cool for him to see and hear it run before he leaves. The welder hasn't gotten here yet, so I can't mount the engine in the car yet. It'll just be sitting there like now's engine was on his garage floor.
Hmm... I know it'll take some time to set up, but I'd like to set up a microphone and a computer to record some engine sounds if I can. Simple mono will be easy enough, but knowing me, I'll set up a mixing board with a stereo mic or something. Heh, maybe not. We'll see.
Man, Tuesday is going to come up very quickly.

doesnt directfreak on the other forum have an rb adaptor on his motor?
we ran into the same slave cylinder thing on my buddies truck, we're either gonna get lazy and space it, or take a die grinder to the steel, or a little of both
mike
