I am going to wrap the header.
Don't. Header wrap keeps the heat in and causes it to rust quicker. I have a Racing Beat race header that was wrapped, and it's very thin in places. A better solution is to get a high-temp coating inside and outside the header. I had my Cadillac's headers coated by HPC and it significantly reduced underhood temps. The only real problem is that you'll have to get the pricier turbo/rotary engine coating. Expect to pay at least as much for the coating as for the header.

ok heres a update of what i am doing. I rewired the ignition and the car sounded great until it stumbled real bad. so i checked all the wiring I had done and all was ok, so i thought why not change the igniter. I had a spare sitting there so i swapped it out. guess what? The car no longer stumbled lol. One of the igniters went bad right after i changed the wiring. oh and yes here is a before and after.[attachment=40430:attachment] [attachment=40431:attachment]

Can i put a cas (crank angle sensor) from a 13b in my 12a and use the coils from a 2nd gen to use as ignition? I am curious because i want to minimize everything in the engine bay and get the wiring to a minimium. thanks in advance

I you put a cas in you would need a ecu wouldn't you??It would be interesting to see how it would run tho.

The paint is in need of being redone. But i had a small leak in the oil cooler and wondered what was wrong. well the nipple on the oil cooler split. HOW DO I FIX IT?!!

Racer X 12-27-2006 01:32 PM

Do a search in this forum. Its been talked about alot on how to fix the coolers when they crack around the fittings.I went and bought Hayden heavy duty coolers for both my toys. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

Oh yea this car is my dd (daily driver). so all the work i do is on the weekend. oh i found two black 3rd gen leather seats that i think i am going to customize into the first gen. Those seats are just so comfortable that i can't wait to have them. oh and i got two 12 inch JL speakers for my sound system. One is going behind the drivers seat underneath the sheet metal things behind the seats. The other i am giving to a friend. One 12 inch is more then enough for that car. amp behind the passengers seat. All will be sealed in with rubber to prevent metal onmetal vibration. Oh another four point is going in the passengers seat. the center bezal i think i will use fiberglass to finish and of course pics![attachment=40590:attachment] [attachment=40591:attachment]

zeroecco 01-03-2007 11:18 PM

I put the 12 inch in the car and am driving it with a blaupunkt four way amp. I was worried about the drain on the amp and battery but when i took her out for a drive it seemed alright the lights did dim a bit but not anymore then it had before... oh of course pics of how i did it.

Oh yea, I am putting in weber mid feb. (tax refund) Rob Golden is helping me with that. The weber getting a egt system and new springs and shocks with stainless brake lines powerslot rotors new calipers (non wedge). Have a good one guys and gals

zeroecco 01-21-2007 12:44 PM

hey everyone,

Sorry for not posting in a long time but i haven't had anything to say about the car. everything is alright execpt for some little things that the weber is going to fix. But now there is a new problem... the oil neck is rusting pretty bad, what do I do? Can I repace it(the neck) with a n aluminum one? Do i use a nipple off the intake manifold to vent the oil pan? also what do you all theink about using a microtech mt-4 for a fuel computer and putting a weber ida throttle body on instead of a weber the cost total for the weber w/o manifold(i already have it) is about 1000.00 with all the parts i need( fuel pump, egt system, weber carb, fuel regulator, and air filtering system) where the fuel system will cost about 600 for ecu and wiring harness 400.00 for throttle body, 100 for the fuel pump, 300 for injectors...

One more thing, lol, I NEED a GSL-SE suspension (rearend and associated front end) so I can do newer wheels and tires( my wheels are bent and at 80 mph i get a wiggle going on, not good at those speeds) where can i get it? anyone have a spare they do not want? oh yea i am here in the NW. thanks

you want to vent the nipple on the oil filler, the factory vents it into the intake, but not all the time.

efi would be a lot better than the carby, similar peak power, but the efi will have better mileage, and driveability.

84stock 01-22-2007 04:34 PM

If you want a great carb set up go with a racing beat intake and a 500cfm edelbrock thunder series carb.

I heard those were good but i have decided to go with the weber ida 48 with 38 mm ventries Rob at Pineapple racing is hooking me up. I am also going to do a 2nd gen alternator with Pineapples Relocation kit for that alternator. A egt system to tune the carb is also going in. a coil over on the suspension and have Fibermaz biuld me a center console and shifter surround. And yes I will have pics. The upgrades will begin in about two or three weeks so look forward to it everyone!!! sweet!

OH yea 100 posts!!! Anyway thanks for the support everyone, its been a real event getting this car back together and running right. Of course I have more questions, so here we go!! Now that i am doing the ida 48 and I already have the full Racingbeat exhaust, I am in the process of polishing the intake manifold ( I will have pics soon for that), Got the egt system to tune the car, got the lighter flywheel, underdriving all the assesories, running dldfis, stainless steel everything, 2nd gen alternator, heat shield for the header, Biulding a cold airbox for the weber, got the relocation bracket (pineapple racing) for the alternator to move the weight down, got a 5-speed in the car, and Rob's massaged the ports on the 12a (for better flow), is there anything I can do without turbo and/or more porting and/or NOS to this car to squeeze more power out of it? I think I have offically reached this motors non-extented port limits, do you all agree? Or am I missing something?

locopr1 01-31-2007 12:13 PM

Leave well-enough alone. Car is great as it is, you've done an incredible job. Enjoy!!!

Drum roll please!! Thats right the carb is here!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif I have been waiting for this for so long. she has 38 mm ventries and is pre tuned so that i can fine tune it on my own. I also got the egt kit from pineapple(gauge is in the pic). And the alternator relocation kit is on its way. This is a great day, I am coming to the end of the "rebirth of my 78." When the engine is done i can offically say I am at the point to where I can start to have fun driving instead of having fun "fixing." This means that I will be going for track days and auto x... ah good times, goooood times

Racer X 02-03-2007 04:58 PM

Congrats. That carb looks hot.I still like my DCOE but I always liked the looks of a downdraft setup on these motors.I need to order some smaller idle jets for Racetep.com one day so I can lean out the idle on mine.Let us know how she runs when its put back together.Nice to see another rotory getting some much needed attention.

zeroecco 02-10-2007 10:00 PM

here the next set of pictures of the car... I am so STOKED for this. The car starts right up and runs really well. I can tell she is going to scream....[attachment=41040:attachment] [attachment=41041:attachment] [attachment=41042:attachment] [attachment=41043:attachment]

[attachment=41338:attachment] [attachment=41339:attachment] [attachment=41340:attachment] [attachment=41341:attachment] Here is the update I am sure everyone who has been paying attention to this thread has been waiting for. I got the 2ng gen alt. in and am still waiting on the relocation bracket. As for the dldfis, I got sick of it and it blowing up my igniters (didn't read about that happening) so i went back to the electronic dizzy.... Soon I will have the ida 48mm tuned and the new fuel pump in and beware hondas hahahahaha

Latin270 03-06-2007 02:33 PM

She runs alright, i guess. However the motor hickups real bad at about 3~4k. I think its due to being untuned... Also the fuel regulator I have doesn't have a return line so i have to get another one with a return hole before i can put in the new fuel pump. Or does anyone know how to do a return line off the weber? also I am going to do a cold air induction for the car... NO video yet. She isn't even close to ready. But i have a dyno day coming up so I got to get her ready real soon.

zeroecco 03-11-2007 02:15 PM

figured i would use a t fitting for the return line. As for the car running I found out the hard way that tuning this B**** is got to be done by someone who knows what the hell they are doing because I haven't a clue. Anyone got an idea how to tune this thing? Any help would be awesome.

No i didn't. The bowl fills like it should. When it is full the fuel line will start to back up. when that happens the fuel goes through the t- fitting back to the fuel tank. Hasn't been a problem...

Latin270 03-15-2007 07:04 AM

Any updates?

Any updates?

I did get ahold of wackyracer. He gave me some great advice. Now i just have to come up with the carb parts to make it happen. I have been playing with the carb trying to get it right on my own and am some what close but i have to modify thee skid plate for the fuel pump before i can put that bad boy in. I do have a grounding issue through i am noe trying to find. Thats a pain. Other then that the relocation bracket came in and i got that in but i am waiting on a new belt so i can move it down. But i have finals coming up so i will have to put the rest on hold until I am done... Cheers

zeroecco 03-15-2007 05:07 PM

OH yea. I need a whole bunch of parts....lol Does anyone know where i can get a breather tank, a good fuel regulator (used is fine), and does anyone know where i can get some pipe bent for the cold air intake? I want to make the car nice under the hood as well as sell a cold air intake setup for the first gen with weber or nikki. cheers

Latin270 03-15-2007 08:02 PM

Check ebay....where else? Keep us posted of your progress!

zeroecco 03-29-2007 12:19 AM

Alright a big update!! Yes I know I have not posted in a while and I am sorry for that (finals etc.) but here it goes... The fuel pump wasn't doing it for the weber. It got so bad that anything above 5k was useless or impossible so i finally got the mallory in and that fixed that. Next was the temp gauge. It kept telling me that I had over heated the motor. OH SHI*, but no I hadn'. The grounding system I biult was insufficent and was backing up electrons the the block through the gauge. So i rebuilt the gauges and inspected the wiring. so I fixed that too. Gauges work, car doesn't overheat, and i got the relocation bracket on and removed the stupid gilmer drive. [attachment=41619:attachment][attachment=41620:attachment][attachment=41622:attachment][attachment=41623:attachment][attachment=41624:attachment][attachment=41625:attachment]

Now as my spring break winds down I get ready to take the car to Rob for the tuning, yahoo!! I will post again soon so for now cheers.

P.S.- my horrible welding skills lol

zeroecco 09-13-2007 09:38 PM

alright I m going to revive this dead topic. I haven't written on my baby for some time due to "life" ie college. Alright here we go!! I have pretty much maxed out the motor withou porting as you all know. At best I am making 170 hp and 150 lb/torque at the flywheel. I can live with that, what is killing me though is my suspension. I have all stock suspension from when the car was built!! talk about scary, this thing is just bad. Therefore the second journey of my 7's rebirth has begun!! here is the laundry list:

RE-Speed:

springs

shocks and struts

coilover conversion

stainless lines

big brake upgrade (front and rear)

rear lsd w/ mosier axels

rack and pinon conversion (yes I know I do not know how to spell pinon, but you get the point)

wheels and tires

beware hondas your doom is approching. AHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA (evil laugh)
