Here is a few updated photos of the h-mount system. I was initially going to run v-mount but due to size of the IC was not able to. When you see, you will understand. Enjoy, Z |
As long as you keep some space between your IC and Radiatior, a front mount system works more than fine. An FB has plenty of space in the nose.
A V-Mount only works well if you have good ducting and a vented hood. Both of which are not needed in the 1st Gen. My Intercooler is larger than yours, and I have the stock radiator, stock oil cooler, and even the A/C Condenser all in their stock place. Everything works, nice and cool. Even in South florida weather. |

Even in South florida weather. Yeah, you along with another forum member are running this large of an IC up front. This method probably would have proven to be more than effective enough however with my intercooler sitting in this position I can ensure that there is proper air flow. I plan on venting the hood. As far as the ducting goes the rad will sit pretty much at the cross bar. Should provide for more than enough air flow. The thing that really got me with this setup though is the Ic piping. I think that I will have a total of around 3-3.5' of piping. The Turbo side is less than a foot. We all know that less pipe mean less lag. What size is the NPR? Are you still planning on going v-mount Directfreak? I took the dimensions today for the Radiator. The largest that I want to go is 14"x20". I plan on getting a custom 3 row made. Z |

I'm running the large intercooler, but I was going to try (what now is probably not smart in the eyes of another) this:
Attachment 21008 And use some sort of cowl inside my bumper to direct airflow to the oil cooler and subsequently the intercooler. Here is what the large NPR looks like from the top, the way I have it setup. It's definitely way too big to configure in a vmount orientation. Attachment 21009 |
Hey nice pictures you have there. The Isuzu NPR looks to be a little larger than mine(both in length and height).
I am glad that I could mount mine in a h-mount, that way I can justify spending 400+ on a custom radiator... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Just one comment on your setup though. I personally would not run the Oil cooler that way. It is going to be hard to create ducting that will flow both vertically as well as horizontally. Not that it can't be done. I contemplated the oil cooler location when I first had the FMIC. Take this for what you want but I would reccomend placing the Oil cooler in front of the support bar. This bar allows for something to tie into and on top of that it is alread blocking the IC. This will take a little bit of flow away from the IC but not anything that you should notice. Not to mention the OC already partially blocks the IC with your setup. At least fab up a couple brackets that will drop the OC right in front of the support bar. Z |

How many third gens cooked their engines because of insufficient cooling? |

Good to see. I think that you could make the oil cooler setup work but why when it is better the way that you did it?

I can't imagine how one could do a project like this with a full-time job. I'm lucky that I'm a student and alternate semesters: one working full time, followed by one going to school. At any rate, the assumption now is that my oil seals are blown because of the oil I have flowing out of my exhaust ports. I'm trying to contact a local engine builder to see if I can get this done at a relatively cheap rate. Thanks for checking it out though! |
