well buddy....the floats...float......what now?...my dad mentioned something about the ignition, about the points not making contact.....but keep in mind, the car ran fine day 1 ....day 2 this started. could it be the "points" if so would that solve the too much fuel problem, which i believe is THE problem.
what year is it? Because they changed from points to the electrical system in like early 80's. If its a later model first gen it wont have points. The electrical system for the firing is meant to be unservicable (supposedly its bulletproof), theres some info in the haynes manual on it. Maybe this has gone faulty on you????

they have 2 fuel pump circuits for these cars. 78-82 they just get power when you turn the key to the "on" position, its very simple. 84-85 these have a relay that is triggered by the "ecu" which gets a timing signal from the trailing ignition. i dont remember which one the 83's have, i did have an 84 that had a bad "ecu" it would only run the pump when the key was on and the engine wasnt running, so the car would start and run fine for about 30seconds and the die.

well see i flushed the gas tank and refilled it before i put in the new pump. now there was a little bit of trash, but not really enough to make much concern about.

You might have to test it and see if it still is putting out 6psi like its supposed to and take it from there.

#1 Summit Racing Part#SUM-800215 Alum Face $17.99us or SUM-800115 White Face $19.95us.

Both are Liquid Filled and are rated at 1 to 15psi. Either are 1/8"NPT fittings.

Holley makes the same setup but it will cost you $65.00us. (Not Worth It).

I changed mine from Mech to Liquid offered buy the above and found out that I was off by 3psi.

So go for the Summit Liquid Set-UP. Stays steady at 6psi.
