I posted a couple months ago about a friend with an '80 rx-7 for sale for $400.

The body is ok with absolutely no rust, but has a couple dents and dings.

The engine I think is shot. When it starts, it smokes blue then white smoke and doesn't quit. Fogs the whole block. It's been sitting for a few years... 3 or so.

He cut off the exhaust between the manifold and muffler cuz it was rotting.

The interior needs work but not that bad for a 23 year old.

Now he's dropped his price to $300.

I'm just wondering what I'd be getting myself into if I bought it. It looks like I could spend $1000 easily on overhauling the engine, correct? (That's if it doesn't need housings...) Another $400 on the exhaust...

What do you think?

i like it! theres gonna be other stuff (radiator, tranny?, brakes?) but these cars are pretty easy and if it runs you can find out some of the other stuff that might be wrong with it. $300 i would buy it

I would pass.

The problem with a 1980 Rx besides it's age (which will definately be a issue) is the motor(12A)= no real room for growth(improvement) latter on. A lot of work/money with little pay off at the end. Try to get somthing with a 13B in it. my opnion.
