Hi Rx7pr, wooffinn from downunder.I'm a mechanic by trade and fix a lot of Mazdas so maybe I can help. I've found that sometimes even the brake dust can cause all sorts of funny squeaks so give everything a good clean off in that area. Also just look very carefully at all the brake springs,as while there may not be any 'witness marks', I've found that with age they become quite soft and can, in service, not work as they should, causing brake shoe movement/noises. I also do a lot of axle bearings(usually from burnouts!!( but they tend to be more of a 'growling' noise. The best way to check the rear bearings is some quiet road with some curves and just drive into the corners a little harder than you normally would. As the weight transfers from side to side, a worn bearing will be louder with the weight on it. But remember that when you turn right, the weight is towards the left side of your car and vise versa! I hope this helps. Regards Tim.
