I was driving to work the other day (82 12a w/ nikki carb and a K&N air filter) and it was driving fine, then when i came to a stopl at the light, i went to go again, and it felt really sluggish, like there was no power. It now runs kinda growling, and seems to have no get up and go. 3rd gear seems ok, as far as i can tell, but starting, and in the lower RPMs it has nothing. I took the lid off of the air cleaner to see of i might hear anything different, andit was growling. It didn't have the smooth sound i was used to, but i know if i slipped an APEX it would likely not run at all. I still idles at about 800, but i was thinking maybe the synchro is goiong on the tranny? Or, being the original motor, could the seals be going on it? (it has 153K on it, and i have obviously been on it a few times, but only over 6500 RPM a couple of times, and RARELY over 5500.) Please help!! Any ideas are more than welcome!!!!

1) Check your ignition system.

2) Check your shutter valve.

3) Check for vacuum leaks in general.

4) Do a compression check.

A lost apex seal won't keep your engine from running, but it does rob 1/3 of your power (or more).

Id say shutter valve. My 12A pulled that **** way back in the day so I yanked the carb off the intake and took care of it
