Exhaust routing?

I have a pair of 3" dia Magnaflows on my turbo FB -- one in the front, acting like a presilencer, and the other in the rear. These things are straight thru with ceramic packing, and this setup is loud. With a passenger in the car, I have to talk very loud to hear her (or him). I think a real presilencer is a good idea. Very few people complain that their car is too quiet.

My car is definately not "too quiet". Straight pipe + cannon = loudness.



It's running really rich too for some reason.

i ordered the hushpower muffler yesterday from jegs. so in 2-3 my TII will be running it. from the turbo back is 3 inch with no cats or resonators. its crush bent tubing though. that will not affect the sound to much though...



i'll try and post up a sound clip...

FWIW, I run a crush-bent 3" pipe and just the Borla XR-1. I like the Borla. It's a tad expensive, but I'll never need another muffler. It's a little loud for a daily driver, but I'm not in the car that much, so the exhaust note is sweet music to my ears. I'm careful about where I push on the go pedal, so I've never gotten pulled over. I suspect that if I blasted past a cop at full throttle, he might think it was a little loud.

I got my exhaust on with just the cannon and it's reasonable at idle- the cannon actually quieted it down a LOT- I fired it up without the cannon in place to see how loud it was, and it was excessively excessive. Even with the cannon, anything above idle and it's way too loud. I'll be buying one of those Spiralflows soon and let you guys know what's up. My system is 2.5" mandrel bent, with RB header.



Oh, and I only got to drive it once. After I parked it, electrical gremlins got to my ignition system, and I haven't had time to trace it out. I have a hunch either the wire to the coil baked or the ignition switch itself, since there was "electrical-fire scented smoke". It's either one of those 2 or it's the damn ignitor. If the ignitor is it, GM ignitors here I come!

so i fired up, and drove the car with the Hushpower muffler. 3 inch all the way from turbo back.



I HIGHLY reccomend the Hushpower muffler.



i went from a 2.5 inch with a resonator and a cheapo muffler. to this set up... it atually is a little bit quieter, and a whoooole lot deeper. sounds beautiful.

ignitors just fail, they dont smell.



there is a secret fuseable link on the 79-80's in the ignition switch wiring

No I hard wired my ignition in since I swapped motors. A lot less hassle than trying to get my '80 wiring to work with my '83 disty. **** fuses and fusible links, at least until I re-wire the car this winter with a new mini-fuse box.



The smell was from a frying parking brake warning light wire... and my car wouldn't get spark because my hard-wired ignition wire wasn't getting power... I accidentally must've knocked the wire loose. :wallbash: So now I got it to start, but once again, it won't stay running. Carb still needs too much tuning. I think it's just running extra rich, and is loading up and dying at idle.

IT'S HOME! It was at my dad's shop, across town, where I was working on it. But today, I did a little ignition tune up- cap, rotor, wires, cleaned the plugs, and added grounds to the rotor housings (pics to come). It fires RIGHT up, and runs good. It still is running rich, and loads up below 3k at throttle, and it's idling high- about 1500, but it's running, and driving. Took the freeway home, no problems.



What a good ******* feeling.
