That is Wren. Funny story: where I work, there is a small wiry guy, and a big STINKY guy working with us. We call them Wren and Stenchy.



Ok, I cleaned out the strainers on the fuel line banjo bolts, changed the fuel filter under the car, cleaned out the float bowls and everything else with the top of the carb off. The car still wouldn't fire up. It's got good compression. The battery was dying when I was trying to start it, so I didn't get that much time to try to start it. I'm going to check the fuel pump in the next couple of days.

What's the best/easiest way to find out if the fuel pump is any good? I figured, I would first, just turn on the key, and see if I could hear it running. Thanks again.

My car needs a good charge once my oil cooler gets here.I just bomb start it when the battery is dead.Fires up nicely.Just give it some good gas.

to check for operational fuel pump, pull off the fuel line going into carb (the large hose closest to windshield) put a small container under hose and turn key on, should see gas flowing from hose at this point,,,if u are getting gas, try pouring an ounce of fuel down carb throat and see if it will run,,,have u messed with the adjustment screws yet at base of carb,,,do u have a haynes or can u get one from the library....let us know how ur comming along,,we are here for ya....... :wave:

I haven't gotten a haynes manual yet, but I probably will. I haven't messed with any adjustment screws yet. And if I pour gas into the carb, or spray brake cleaner into the carb, the engine runs pretty good. I'm going to testr the fuel pump pretty soon.

the 84-85's have a fuel pump relay, they only pump gas when it gets an rpm signal. you have a plethora of options

1. the fuel pump plug is under the driver side bin, just jump it

2. pull the line off and crank engine

3. jump the relay, its in the dash by the drivers left knee

4. take distributor out, turn key on, spin it by hand

5. replace pump and recheck

hmmmmmm. That's interesting. The tach doesn't work on his car. I wonder if that is the reason for all of this crap.

The tach problem can be a bad ignotor..on the dizzy..

Could someone give me a better description of where the relay is? I was looking up under there a few minutes ago, and found the check lamp indicator relay. I found another relay above the brake pedal, under the steering column that was round and metal. And I found a harness plug dangling on the right side with nothing connected. Any help is always appreciated.

Any more description of the relay would be cool. Or maybe what color wires go to it.

the fuel pump relay, is under the dash. if you are sitting in the driver seat, its on the right hand side of the steering column. the relay itself is 4 pin and its round. it has a little tab with a 6mm bolt holding it to the dash
