hey all, just bought a 1985 RX7 and have been doing tons of research and work on it in the last couple days. got it for 400 with a rebuilt carb. started right up, just needs clutch and brake cylinders. anyways, i think these gauges worked before i removed the rats nest but now i have no temp or oil pressure. i assume if the engine starts up nice and stuff that it has oil pressure, and i let it run for 15 minutes revving it occasionally and temp never went up.

do the temp and pressure sensors connect to the emissions thing somehow? is there a magic plug somewhere im missing? i have followed the temp and pressure sensors and the wires are fine.

ok, i cant figure out how to edit posts so ill just add one. i found the wiring diagram for the sensors and it seems to be pretty straightforward, wires go from the senders directly to the gauges. is there a ground plug somewhere that would disable the gauges when unplugged? im assuming that if i did in-fact have no oil pressure the car would start very badly and would heat up very fast.

i should probably just get some mechanical ones but i dont understand how the gauges could just stop working all of a sudden.

There on the driver side of the engine I know for a fact that the oil pressure sending unit is under the beehive its brass lookin and the size of a 50 cent piece. whater temp sending unit is to the left of oil thing its real small or on the bottom of the rad the one on top of the rad is coolant level sensor.

huh, i dont get it. both pieces are intact and all wiring is oem and intact. i guess its time for some mechanical gauges.

also, i dont really wan to make another thread but i have another question. i replaced my clutch line (cylinders, hardline, braided line) since i had no clutch feel. the pedal just drops. there is no change now that my clutch line is all new, the pedal never pumps up. i noticed that the engagement fork does not have any return to it, its all the way engaged and stays that way. does this mean: A. clutch is fuxxed, B. pressure plate is rusted out or something, C. the throwout bearing is unseated or something?

thanks

hmm well sometimes electrical shorts can mess the gauges up.. no blown fuses? do yo have a some crazy sound system

the master on the fire wall could be bad,,the slave on top of the tranny. if u can see fluid leaking its bad. did u bleed it

If I were u i dont know where u live go to car quest. get a clutch slave master and a clutch kit. If the pilot bearing is good leav it alone

oh one last thing... Do yo have some local rx friends u could exchange your oil press sending unit and water temp thing.

the slave, master, hardline and clutch line are brand new, i tried to bleed but got nothing and then noticed that the clutch is engaged always, there is no tension on the fork, its already pushed in and wont stay out. it has no leaks.

the gauge problem is not important, i just want to drive the damn car.
