Wiper Rack
#1
symptom: wipers dont move, or move slowly
affected cars: any 79-85 rx7
cause: corrosion between the pivot of the wiper rack.
correction:
remove rack from car by removing wiper arms (14mm nuts, 19mm nuts under rubber caps), cowl panel (4 screws under hood), wiper rack (3 10mm bolts, 2 in engine bay), unplug wiper motor and remove rack.
examine rack; the wipers mount to studs that go thru hollow things that are bolted to the car, theres a bronze bushing in there that siezes up due to age and poor sealing.
to dissasemble you need to remove a "c" clip from the upper end of the wiper shaft, its a bitch, stock up on swear words, once you get the clip off gently tap the shaft out of the pivot holder framus. if its siezed this will be hard.
once its apart, sand it all down and grease the hell out of it.
it goes back in the car the same as it goes in, also a good time to paint the rack, it should be a semi gloss black, and clean the leaves out from the cowl area.
