Come on, man. These ARE just cars. If you come across a shell with no interior and lots of damage that isn't worth saving, you can either race it, or junk it. These car's simply don't have the value that justifies replacing floors, buying full interiors, etc. I'm all for saving the cherry ones, but not every car is a restoration waiting to happen, and that's just the way it is. We can at least enjoy the rough ones by making them so-what-daily-drivers or racing 'em.

I agree with you, believe it or not. I actually thought my RX-2 would make a cool track car (not a [vintage] race car, as it is way to expensive to get the suspension right], but since it was healthy and 100% complete, I just couldn't do it.



If somebody, however, has a car that is missing lots of hard to replace and expensive parts, I guess it's better to enjoy it than to junk it.



That said, the red car looked bitchin' complete to me (don't know about dash, etc.), healthy, no rust, all the hard to find stuff still on, etc. that I found it was a cryin' shame not to refurbish it. In a nutshell, it's always easier and cheaper to find an incomplete or customized car, than one that's original or at least almost 100% stock.



Prices . . . the more cars are modified, the more valuable the stock ones will become. Imagine that you, in the year 2030, tell your grandchildren about that $75,000 Mazda RX-2 Coupe with the twin-dizzy that you butchered back in 2007. Twenty-five years from today, it might have been one of a handful that have survived. I have quite a few cars in my personal stable already, but I am absolutely convinced that early Japanese cars, especially those that are significant and sexy, will make a huge jump up the price ladder within the coming few years. In fact, I believe a nice RX-2 Coupe will be a $20K car in 2010. Problem is, there are not many nice ones left in the US, and restoring a pig is a lost propositon. That's why it makes so much sense to save the few unmolested survivors . . .
