Jims,

Why is bilstein shock setup so great? what makes it so much better then say the ground control koni setup or the same thing with KYB AGX? they are all around the same price.

Now how about say Tein HA, i know TEIN are not allowed in rule book, but my car is more for my personal enjoyment and attending local autox and lapping days rather then to compete to for the national championship.

-thanks

Jason
I run GC coil uvers and KYB AGX shox. I dont know if they are the best out there but I am very happy with them.

I cannot tell you what is better. I have not personally compared any in my car. I have this setup and I like it. It might not be the best though. The only way I would know is to buy another setup and install it and thats not happening anytime soon.

Ok you guys said Tein suspension is not allowed.......Why is that and for what events are you refering to?

I don't understand why someone would make a particular brand illegal especially a quality brand like tein. In my opinion Ground Control looks like Junk. I have never used them but just looking at them and the way they are made I think they will break quickly.

Anyway that not being my point exactly I was just wondering where and why Tein suspension is ruled out.

Racing is not drifting. Each class has rules, just like in you basic autox to your SCCA or NASA races. Different classes have different rules, i'm sure there is an unlimited class where you can run anything you want, but then at that point you are heavily into 1/2 million and there are lots of cars that will beat a rx7 no prob.

it is not the brand that they are not permitting the product to be used, it is the type of design. A KYB or in this case a biltein shock still works on the same design as the stock component, where as the TEIN, CUSCO, JIC, or whatever high priced japanese brand do not.

And who is to say Tein is better then ground control, each have their own specific application, each has it's pros and cons, you can not base your opinion strictly on how it looks.

Thats wierd....because a Tein is designed just like the bilstein it is a shock that someone put threads on to adjust the ride height. Same concept. I wonder if they would allow Ohlins because they are quite honestly a shock with a Threaded collar that connects using allen screws. Weird *** ****......a Shock is a Shock that is some stupid *** rules. I guess I would just race in the unlimited class just so I would not have to have a dorky *** car.

I am not basing my opinion on how something looks exactly but when looking at a manifold suspension or whatever you look at the welds....the thread on the adjustments and the general construction. That will give you a clue to how well something is built. I have based some of my opinion of Ground Control on their advertisements in American Magazines which are a lie. If it is true you can adjust the ride height of the car without jacking the car up then it is dangerous and at the average ride height needed for a competitive FC you could never get your hand in there anyway. Just seems as if they are appealing to POSERS and people who don't race or do any performance driving but like I said it might be great suspension I dunno because I have never used it.

My whole point here is what is the basis of making certrain types of suspension illegal in certain classes. What characteristics would make something not fit into a certain class?? We haggled with these rules at our Autocross and decided to let suspension be unlimited and basically use engine size to determine what class you could run in. Although it is more detailed than that the thing is guys with 7 bazzillion horsepower and 65 bazillion dollar suspension don't really do any better than guys with lesser of both. We know most of it comes down to the driver so we let the competition fall the way it really is and its fun.
