Ok guys, Sitting here looking for some definitive answers why or why not a FD tranny would not work in a FC. I know there will be mount changes, and driveshaft length changes. But what else may have to be done, or why don't people do this?



I have seen Dragon, and Igy both do major launches with theirs and not have too much problem. But the T II next to them was twisting output shafts and just destroying the TII trannies all the time...

I dont know where the shifter location is on the fd tranny but it seems to me like that would be the only thing you might run into besides whats listed in your post originaly. Ive actualy thought about the fd tranny before myself thinking maybe it would be easier to find than a tII one. As for why people dont do it i think that mostly theres not alot of high powered fcs that are pushing the limit on the fc tranny.

The Fd of course has the PPF which would have to modified. I think you could make it work, just might be alot of work.There is one way to find out, do it. Then let everyone know the results.

 

Don't forget that the fd uses a pull-type clutch while the fc is conventional push-type. Would take some fabricating.

 

You could go twinplate with the push/pull adapter for that problem.

 

Couldn't you just take the entire clutch assembly from the FD and put it in the FC?

 

not worth it..depending on what model fc you have. the S5 trannies are just a tad bit weaker, if not he same as fd's. the clutches are different, the mounting is different. its just not worth the hassle for just a little bit more strength. a better option would be to get an OS giken gearset, or I think quaife makes some as well. They arent cheap, but you shouldn't have to worry about breaking your tranny...
