How is the street ride of coilovers? Is it STIFF? Like more uncomfortable than a stiff set of springs and shocks?



I'm not a hardcore racer, even thought I may sometimes pretend I am. I drive street 95% of the time, and race on one weekend out of the month. If I have to take a set of corners slower so that I don't cause premature back problems from all the jitters in the suspension, then I don't want to deal with it.

If you want the adjustability of coilovers, but dont want the harsh ride, check out Ground control setups. They are a sleve and spring that fits over your existing shocks and has height adjustibility. When you order them you can tell them the spring rates you want...so you can get something on the mild side. These paired with a good adjustable shock would perform very well.



As far as shocks go, i have the koni's, and love them. They have a great range. for the street you can put them way soft and have a comfortable ride. But they get very firm for spirited driving.

The JIC FLT-A2's have a pretty darn good ride considering the stiffness of the springs on their coil-over set-up for the FD.

Just 2 cents. I talked to the owner of Tri-Point about this a while ago. I think he was the owner, he was the head man around there anyway. I have the Koni yellows with stock springs and I get mad fender rub. He said I could upgrade the springs but my car wouldn't "handle" better just "feel" better. He said one thing people often overlook when trying to eliminate things like fender rub, is upgrading the roll bars. He said if I really cared more about how the car handled I should do that before I upgraded the springs. Oh yeah, he also said the Konis are only rebound adjustable, so if you make them to tight you could blow them. Apparently the shock dosen't expand back to its original length fast enough, so the travel is reduced. On a road with "quick" bumps this could damage the shock.
