You're gonna hammer a socket on each lock? Sounds like a terrible waste of 4 sockets. Oh well, go out and buy some Gorilla or SplineDrive locks when you're all done. They're pretty freakin nice.

can you JB weld the lock pattern back into the socket? is that what I see in the pic? It only has to work once, after all.
EDIT: Sorry for whoring, I'm not quite all there today. |
i still have yet to call a dealer and ask them about it. if worse comes to worse i'm just gonna have to hammer some sockets on.
hopefully the pattern on the lock is universal. i actually thought about taking it to a machine shop to see if they could come up with something. who knows though, i'll try the jb weld first. and yes you are correct, that is what you see. the pattern has little 'teeth' (kinda like a gear), and the socket has 'receptive' teeth, i guess to keep the pattern joined to the socket while turning. i tried taking a pic of it but it wouldn't turn out very well. |
I get it now. I just didn't know how the key as in the lock-socket. How stripped are the teeth on the backside of the lock pattern? 'cause it looks as if the teeth on the socket are okay.
|
it doesn't look like the teeth are stripped at all. a couple teeth on the socket are a little stripped. right after it broke, i put the pattern back in the socket and tried it again, but the teeth weren't catching. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

I hate the cheep wheel locks that come with cars. I've stripped them may times. If you're going to hammer a sockets on just go and buy some cheep sockets. Don't use expensive ones like craftsman. This method works pretty well. I don't sue wheel locks anymore. After all, who steals stock wheels?
|
yeah, what he said!!!
No, really.. I'm just thinking that with some really strong Epoxy, and most of the teeth left on both pieces, there's no reason that you shouldn't be able to hold the pieces together long enough to get the locks off. Afterall, you're only applying what, like 70 ft-lbs? Anyway, my point is that the key doesn't have to last. |
if you do get the craftsman, when they split down the side you can take them back and get new ones!
