I forgot about this forum....i've been out of it for a while. I'm back and have changed my setup. My car is coming around quite nicely and will be up and running very soon.

What do you think?

that intake manifold looks very interesting!

SilverSeven 05-09-2005 12:48 AM

Still looks nice, I'll have to drop by and take a look. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Is this going to be a track only car, or are you going to keep it registered for road use?

rowtareh 05-09-2005 01:04 AM

agreed with vosko. uber nice! and interesting!

Is that in a good way or a weird way? You think it'll work? The flow #'s are through the roof compared to a stock upper and lower that were extrude honed and ported. This is coupled with a Groundzero lower that is yet unported or cleaned up or anything. So after it's ported and cleaned up i'm sure it will get only better.

It will be registered and driven on the streets for sure. I don't want a track only car except for my AE86....but i might even want to drive that on the street.

Hit me up and let me know when you want to stop by. I really want to see your car!

Thank you!

It's getting better everyday. One day closer to being on the track and in a Magazine. I'll hopefully get cover....that's been one of my goals for a long time. I've got stiff competition with another Virtual Works car....Dana's Supra (owner). We've got a Lexus coming out in this months Turbo magazine with a couple more Supra's the month after.

vosko 05-09-2005 01:48 AM

i honestly don't know if it is better or not but it certainly looks cool!!!! if you wanna give me one i'll try it out haha

rfreeman27 05-09-2005 05:48 AM

why did you leave the runners so long on the intake manifold?

I just want to know your reasoning behind the way you designed it, looks neat.

also, what kind of steering rack is that?

GreyGT-C 05-09-2005 09:18 AM

looks awesome... i wanna know about the steering rack also.

vosko 05-09-2005 10:07 AM

looks like a FC manual rack?

You're welcome. It is very different from the regular FD manifold. Good luck on the car though and making cover.

GreyGT-C 05-09-2005 09:10 PM

looks a lil like a supra plenum from what i remember of them..

CletusFD3S 05-10-2005 12:15 AM

very nice/interisting job

silvr94r2 05-10-2005 05:16 AM

Thanks guys for the compliments. I was hoping for some good feedback.

The manual rack is a Flaming River Pinto piece. It's sooooo light and turns super easy. It took a little fab work to get it in but it was well worth it.

The manifold is pretty much the same one we do for the Supras....just shrunk down and changed a little. The runners were kept long to try and add some torque and maybe broaden the band a little. I don't want it to be super peaky although for drag racing it doesn't matter all that much. I'll be staying about 6500 and above the whole way down the track since the stall converter won't let it drop out of it's power.....or so i hope.

I don't think i mentioned that the car is converted to a TH350 with a transbrake. I'm shooting for the fastest street Rx7 and to be more competitive with the Supra's. Being that we have the fastest no nitrous Supra in the world with hopes of being the fastest street Supra period....that won't be that easy of a task.

Here's a shot of the auto from underneath the car. Can't really see all that much but oh well.....

http://www.mustangmods.com/data/6966/new_combo_3.jpg

You can see a little bit of my new ARC radiator...i love that part!

ErnieT 05-10-2005 06:14 AM

Looks great. Plenum looks big enough for sure. How are you going to hook the throttle body up?

ErnieT 05-10-2005 06:23 AM

Also, what turbo is that and did you plan on spraying it as well? I figure you'll need to to run low 9's, high 8s. I thought I had a nice setup till I saw yours!

Zero R 05-10-2005 04:00 PM

Boooooo, ugly ugly ugly. J/K enough with the photos and get the thing done or it will be like mine and never get done!!

cymfc3s 05-10-2005 04:16 PM

That looks like a GT42. I just helped put a 42 on an FD, i was amazing how fast it spools. Its not laggy at all.

GreyGT-C 05-10-2005 04:23 PM

silver94r2, PM sent to you.

It is a GT42-76 and yes i'm gonna be hittin it with a 100 shot or so. I'll see where i'm at and go up or down from there.

Thank you....thank you. I'm trying to get it done but we've had a few Supra's come through lately trying to get ready for that race in Arizona this next weekend. It's quite a bit farther along than these pics. I just always forget my camera when going down to the shop. It's lookin pretty good if i do say so myself https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I know what you mean too because this has been a steady thing for more than a few years. This is the setup that it will run with.....no changes until it's running and going down the track.

I figured it was a flaming river...Looks just like the one in dee's racecar.

as for the manifold, long runners kill top end HP, with a drag car why do you *really* care about torque down low?

and dont make the argument that it will be diven on the street https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Virtual Works does some amazing stuff. Now if we could just get him to answer the phone. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png My roommate wanted to go through Dana to get his Supra done, but couldn't get ahold of him. Busy guy, I guess.

Is the white (or was white) Supra full weight? How about your FD, is it going to be a full interior?

Right now we're just trying to work around a few space restrictions. Once we get the car up and running we'll see what we actually have to work with. Like i said in a post before though.....this manifold setup has better flow than the old. CFM usually equates to hp from what little i know about that stuff.

To be perfectly honest the car will be driven on the street but that's not the reason for it. We don't think the longer runner length will hurt us. Time will tell. Rotaries are not known for there torque so maybe this will give us a broader torque band. That usually equates to better ET's in drag racing.....or so i've heard https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

We used the passenger side mounting spot and made a billet aluminum clamp to bolt it down. The drivers side we had to cut the k-member (engine cradle) or whatever it's called where the stock mount was. Boxed that in and welded a new mount off of that. That's the part you'll just have to experiment with because i'm sure each would be slightly different. I bought a pinto tie rod race kit from Competition Engineering and we measured cut and welded the ends on.

That's the short story.....any more than that and i'd have to get pics that are zoomed in and break each one down. Hope that helps...if not then we can maybe go over a little more.

Dana's car is not "full weight" but then again neither is anyone elses. It will weigh around 3500 with him in it....give or take a few. Actually i think Saad and Ryan Woon are about the only "full weight" Supra's around. Marko weighs less than Dana's car believe it or not. They're all still pretty damn heavy for drag cars though.

I'm not sure what my car weighs now with the 12 point cage and all the new turbo stuff. With the old setup pretty stripped down it was at 2400 lbs. I'm hoping to be somewhere around 2600-2700 with me in it. It will be full interior and the only window that's not glass is the rear hatch which is CF and Fal.

I'll be at the shop today if you want to stop by. Or give a call in the early evening. Yeah Dana's really busy almost all the time.
