Guys, need some help on this:

This Tuesday a friend of mine is giving me a turbo from a military truck that he purchased for parts only. The truck only has about 2,000 miles on it and I was wondering if I can possible try it on my FD. I can have a custom made manifold for it and the turbo looks to be about the size of a Greddy T78. Just wondering if any of you have heard about, or know if this can be possible.

Thanks,

Vic

A turbo is a turbo, so if its the right size then yes you can use it. Are there any numbers on the turbo to show size and specs, and do you have any pics?

you should check on the specs on the turbo more. Sometimes the truck turbo is build for torque. The A/R ratio, the wheel blades, the compressor map all tend to improve power in a different way as in a "more-race-prepared" turbo.

That turbo might require more exhaust to spin, or too restrictive, you never know. It might have a really good effiecincy at like 30psi and up, but poor efficiency at under 20psi...

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try to post a pic of it this week, I should have it out of the truck by this Wednesday.

Thanks again

I just got the turbo 2 days ago, im getting a dig camera so i can take some pics of it. It looks like its the size of a T78 in diameter, but the compressor housing is a little thinner. I was checking Turbonetics and gonna see if I can just get a bigger housing and wheel maybe?

measure the inducer and exducer of the compressor and turbine wheel and compare to T78...

Compared to most people here, Im still a 13B rookie, but I still just don't feel right with boosting over 20 PSI and making more than 500RWHP on the BREW. Call me paranoid, but I don't plan on going single or even making it past 450 to the ground when I get my car, that's on the BREW of course, the 20B is another story though.

well if the a/r is ok, couldn't an appropriate wheel and/or port job do the trick?
