we consider to try to buil a pp 13b whit a turbo

but we need to use a 36mm restictor and the opening to the turbine has to be max 32 mm ( for 5mm at least)

this above to make the engine to fit into the rules of the racing class we might going to compete in...

the question is

anyone have any idea if this restctor is big anuff to deliver anuff air to the engine??

what kinda power can we aspect to get out of it??

today we get aprox 330 bhp from a NA PP 13b

if we build it we will race against volvo 3l evo engines

we are also building a 20b pp Na engine

for the 04 racing sesoson

if any of you could help us out whit the turbo

questions we would be very gratefull

best regards

I doubt it. I just measured the stock turbo inlet I have here and it was 42mm.

This is is the stock inlet of the 93 TWIN turbo!! Using 2 of them doesn't get you much more power than you already have, one would kill your output bigtime, I would think. The exhaust side would be incredibly restrictive.

What turbo has a 32 mm inlet anyway?

You make 330 bhp through a single 36mm restrictor? Or are you allowed one for each rotor?

How much power do you need to make to stay competitive?

hi..

the car is competitive today

we make the engine output aprox 330 whit no turbo

whit carbs and peripial ported..

but new rules are comming next year

one of the new rules are that we can make a engie whit 1 turbo

and a REstrictor ( goes infront of the turbo`s airinlet ) is 32mm and 5 mm long...

our worrys is that a pp 13b will not get anuff air trought the turbo

in order to make a desent boost pressure...

so thats why i asked if maybee anyone else has experice whit this issue..

here is a video clip ( off topic )

this is a braking of a NA 20b we are building to put in a rx7

The powercurve would go flat as the restrictor took over so what you need then is a porting & turbo setup that maximises torque at midrange rpm. The WRC provides the example:

A WRC car has 300hp and 650Nm of torque....... hp is torque x RPM so it is not hard to see what the restrictor does! That torque should produce 500+ hp (and it will without the restrictor!)

Best performance comes by short shifting at the rpm where the torque begins to drop, putting you back into the fat part of the curve. This is EXACTLY what WRC drivers do!

Peripheral ports and turbos can work together, but still need serious rpm! The restrictor will prevent the rpm side of the equation so you need a milder setup. A motor that can stand high boost, a turbo that comes on early and runs out of breath, 20psi at 3000 rpm, shift at 5000......rocket!

With a PP and a turbo that small you will be making boost at idle
