So it's a good buy then?

See i dont like to dream to much so I never paid to much attention to single turbos.

Needless to say I dont know much about them.

I came across this one for a good price so I may be buying it.
its a huge turbo, depending on the exact specs its like "t51" sized, i want it for my 20b

How is it an HKS? I've never seen that model from HKS, plus it still says Garrett on the compressor.

How used is it? The piping looks like it's had some hard miles. The thought of buying a used turbo gives me the *******. Anything that goes 60,000 + RPM shouldn't have much of a re-sale value if you ask me. 'Less you know where they live

If you do some research on a brand new T45s kit you will be surprised, somewhere in the area of $6500. With that being said I'll buy it used. Rebuild kits are not expensive. And because this is a Garret based kit the turbo is serviceable in the US. What makes it HKS is that HKS has a partnership with Garret (Allied Signal) and constructs the kit with the Garret Turbo. Most of HKS's turbos are Garret Based, what you have to watch out for are the Garret Japan turbos, most companies in the rebuild business will not touch them.

I paid $300 for my T45s, turbo is tight, only thing missing from the kit is the wastegate. Using this in comparison to the new price, even if I had to replace all the internals of the turbo and had to have it rebalanced the cost would still be significantly less than the new turbo kit.

I'm aware that Garrett makes HKS turbos, I've never seen an HKS one that still said GARRETT on the compressor housing.

I was also unaware that HKS was using the TA45. They obviously have used the T51 and T04 for a while, and the the T04Z is coming out now that looks like they combined their T51 and T04.

To me it looks like someone modified an HKS kit. They welded a turbo flange adapter on the manifold and cut the end off the downpipe to put on a new flange to fit that turbo.

It doesn't really matter. It's still a big turbo. You're better off if it isn't an HKS model, as you stated it will be easier to service.

Nobody in their right mind would spend $6500 on a turbo kit featuring that turbo, though.
