C,
Looking at your picture your clearance looks fine. Turn the boost up and have a good time https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png D P.S Make sure it is tuned before you turn it up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |
D P.S Make sure it is tuned before you turn it up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png That will be your responsibility;) Thanks again, take care. |

LOL. You know what the say, the wheel that squeaks the loudest..... Look on the bright side, if it doesn't work I'll take the hit and you will still have time to cancel your order https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
to bad about that ticket last night https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png , i actually have to hit my savings for a <40 dollar part https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif Bob |
you have inspired me to purchase the same turbo. What oil return line are you going to use 10 or 12an?

That would be cool. Don't forget to let us know where you got them.
|
UPDATE:
My tial BOV arrived today. As everybody has told me, it's a very nice looking piece. |
another
|
One more.
|
can't wait till our dyno day chris;-)
|
this is pretty crazy that we are so closely mirroring each other turbo projects...in respect to time, companies used, basis for turbo, and now the same blow off valve...(just mine will NOT be red https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub... )

Bob When you ordered your BOV did you specify that you want the rotary friendly spring? Mine spring is rated at 7psi. They normally come with a 14 and for a time the rotary friendly spring was a 9, but people were apparently still getting surge with that one. |
ccarlisi,
Can you post exactly what you purchased for the oil lines? What is BAT? |

ccarlisi,

actually i am sure you don't want to wait for me, plans and all are the same, time frames are not...especially after 2 195 dollar tickets in 3 weeks (what are the f-in odds?) so you will be way ahead I hope. Yeah the spring I WILL get (see above lines for reason) will be the lighter one though, supposedly tial will give it to you for free if you send in the other one (which is meant for piston eng only). Plus mine is an a-spec 35r kit, so all my oil lines are for a little somethin different https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png . But definate props for blazin the trail and puttin your own kit together, this I can sympathize with, just not doin it with the turbo setup...though I kinda wish I had as I probably would have gotten it all here by now.
Bob |
Mine should be here on Friday. Hopefully, plug, weld, tune and ride. I had an XS kit that fell apart - POS.
Chris |
So are there any updates on the projects?
|
Sure, I can give you an update - never deal with XS they will introduce you to the owner Ben and Mr. Dover will ask you to grease his hand before he will call you back.
|
https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png OK..that sucks. Any REAL updates?
|
LOL.
UPDATE: I installed my TIAL BOV, or more accurately, I had my TIAL BOV installed:) After reading a bunch of threads on where to mount it I decided to place it as close to the throttle plates as possible. The main reason I chose this location over mounting it near the turbo is because I don't like the idea of the air flowing through the intercooler pipes reversing direction to bleed out the BOV. Unfortunately, because the stock elbow is made out of plastic there is a lot of distance between the first metal mounting point and the throttle body. A friend of mine that works at a local Porsche tuner did the work. First we placed the flange on the pipe and traced an outline of the flange with a magic marker. Next my friend drilled a large hole and trimmed the edges of the hole to match the flange outline. |
Once the hole was in place we test fitted the flange.
|
Next my friend Tig welded the flange onto the pipe.
|
After things cooled off we cleaned all the junk out of the pipe and rechecked the seal. Notice how small the seam between the pipes is. I could have sealed that sucker with a little bit of superglue;)

|
This is where I had to do some heavy lifting; I installed the BOV on the pipe and decided what direction I wanted the v-band fastener bolt to face.
|
Good deal!
I had mine done and just got it back from the powder coat to match the Tial 50mm. Like you I cant wait to enjoy. 7lb spring on 11 inch vac? |
Notice the nice even welding bead. He used a wire brush to try to match the standard Greddy finish, but it's still a little off. I think I will end up polishing the pipes when the turbo install is complete.
Even though I still have the stock BOV installed I decided to connect the TIAL to verify that it is working. It sounds much different than the HKS bovs I have heard; it sounds kind of like a large stock BOV vented to atmosphere. It seems to open about 1 second slower than the stock valve, but I think it will speed up slightly when I remove the stock valve. As mentioned above I am using the 7lb rotary friendly spring. If anybody gets a BOV with a different spring Tial will switch it out at no charge. I'm very happy to be completely done with one aspect of the turbo project. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
Let's here it! I still don't know which BOV I'm going to buy...the RFL seems nice, and so does the Greddy Type-S.

RFL sucks. Nobody needs to hear a BOV going off 3 times across the parking lot when you're pulling into a space. |

You'll be needing a thumb in the eye then, eh?

That's what I'm talking about!!! Nice pics and great work.

Sweet setup. Keep us updated.

Looks great by the way https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/bigthumb.gif |

All I need is a nice 120deg 3in bend. Surely someone here must know of where I can find one in the US for a reasonable price. I found a supplier in CDA http://www.members.shaw.ca/powertech/pipingbends.html, but would like to avoid doing the cross boarder thing if possible.
Go Canada! |

Go Canada! Next, I need to order a 3" to 2.5" reducer to connect the bend to the turbo. My friend Mike, aka Zoomzoom, has tried a couple different reducers from Samco and ATPturbo. I was planning on ordering the ATP reducer because it is $17.95 vs 33.00 for the Samco piece, but according to Mike the fit is not very precise on the 3" side of the ATP piece. There was some space between the pipe and the ATP coupler that caused it wrinkly/bunch up when it was tightened down. Unfortunately, I then discovered that Samco does not have any 3-2.5" couplers in stock. According to the person I spoke with, they 'should' be getting some in about 3 weeks. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif |

Yesterday I purchased a 120degree cast Greddy Bend from Ihor at Gotham Racing so my pipe-bend problems are history. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
