Thumbs up

Hi,

I live in the UK where fuel prices are expensive, I'm also contemplating buying a series 5 RX-7 as a toy basically because i am infatuated by it.

Thing is I'm wondering whether anyone has done any LPG conversion to it or know of anyone that sell kits of install these LPG kits. For those of you not too sure what I'm on about... it's basically converting the car to run on conventional gas (not petroleum gas), the kind of gas that fuel central heating and stuff. It is possible here in the UK on i beleive any piston engine and it much cheaper (32.9p compared to 75.9p), so theoretically I'd get a double the economy, meaning I could drive the car as it should be driven and not mother it.

Any ideas, stories, tips, suggestion? would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, running (I believe it's propane) on your car is certainly economical but robs most of your power. There is a very detailed thread about this on the "other" forum from a few months ago. While it is great in small doses, used like water injection, converting to a 100% propane rx7 defeats the purpose of owning one.

why not just convert it to ethanol. it's way cheaper, gets good mileage and has zero emissions.

just a thought.

I was under the impression LPG was Liquid Petroleum Gas, correct me if i'm wrong, and thats why people over here in the UK do it, and as far as I know it doesn't rob power from piston engines. Same performance and bhp etc.

I will research some more, and get back to you....

Ok done the research.... here's the link... http://www.autogas.co.uk then go to benefits on the bottom left. RON is higher too.... and if i'm thinking rightly here.... is what the RX-7 loves. Read on. Hope the RX-7 are adaptable!

Good news hey,

There was a all propane 1st gen for sale on Ebay about a year ago. He was also on the "other" forum. You can probably run a search over there and find info on it. It would be very old so I'd start at the bottom of your search and go forward

i've never heard of it "robbing " power. Diesel engines sometimes run them and make crazy amounts of power, but coincidentaly run way hotter. I think that the octane rating of LPG is like 100 or close to that. So i don't see how it would rob you of power. Maybe if tuned differently. In the US, it's not readily available everywhere, so it's not good for a long trip car. We're just slow to pick up some things.
