Hi, im lookin to make 500rwhp+ (10sec 1/4mile). Im either going to buy the HKS T51R KAI or SPL turbo. I hear paying the extra $$$ for the BB option is a waste so im not going BB. I dont care about lag, and also... what would i have to do to be able to rev past 8k rpms (more than once, with out an engine rebuild)?

Im eye ballin the SPL... but I think the KAI would be a little better for me because I will be doing the occasionall street racing but mostly strip. I know the SPL is a monster and Im thinkin about gettin it... woud a large stret port be ok for this turbo? Any opinions would be great... good or bad.

Thanks.

Either turbo if you want 500+ hp on a street port would work. You need to have a race prepped motor to rev past 8k, just includes race clearences and a few other minor things.

What are you doing for fuel delivery? If you want 500+hp you also will be running high boost and race fuel will be needed.

Kai is a good bit bigger then the Spl. I'd go with the Kai since it will spool sooner and you'll have a bigger powerband. Honestly though the T51 is a little overkill if you only want 500 hp. You can get a T66 setup way cheaper, and easily do 500 hp, for probably 1/2 of the price.

A big street port is fine either way

I thought the SPL was larger than the KAI... anyways, I plan on making 500rwhp on PUMP gas... 20psi with water inj. Is this possible? What would you recommend as for as fuel system goes?

Well 20psi on water would work, I ran 18psi without water for 2 years just fine. But I wasn't running a huge turbo with 500+ Hp on a high revving motor. Pump gas (93) might not make it with that kind of setup, its kinda on the edge.

With 1600/550 injectors, 85% duty cycle puts you around 475rwhp. So you'll need a minimum of 1600/850. You'll have to have a huge fuel pump, a fuel pressure regulator, a fuel pressure gauge is a good idea too.

Your right, I guess I should have re-read my post.

Dragon was running a T04R at 20 or so psi with water on japanese pump gas, and making damn near 500 hp so it CAN be done but I hope you have a damn good tuner.

BTW: T04R and T66 are almost exactly the same.

Not entirely true. I rev to 9.5 regularly on a big side without race clearanced rotors on a big sideport. On my bridge I would run to 10.5 in first gear, and it had all stock seals. If the motor wants to go there let it go. Now if you try to rev a stock ported motor, or a side ported motor w/a restrictive turbo(35/40), past 8.5 it won't like you very much. I have never nocked a rotor tip from over rev. You also have to take into account that I build my own motors, so if I screw one up, I just fix it. 9 is very safe on a side ported motor and will probably only be seen/beneficial in first gear with a big *** turbo.
