Hey all,

I have a 40 HKS w/g and appears to be sticking. I tried running it without a boost control but the boost just keeps going.... anyone have this happen? I haven't pulled it off because it was still to hot last night.....Could the diaphram be melted? I'm hoping its an EZ fix.....any ideas once its off?

check the line going to the wastegate, make sure there is no blockage or kink in it. I've never heard of one sticking closed like that although someone said theirs got stuck open once, so its possible it could stick closed

No kinks in the line..... and I only have one line coming off the side port ( w/g ) going to the boost control, then to the manifold... I bypassed the control and the boost still goes high (10psi minumum )....Now granted I run 18-22psi, but its scary not knowing when, if and how much the boost it will make.

I just installed a new clutch so I turned the boost off (10psi minimum spring) to break in the clutch and thats when this all started Monday, but I've had it this way for 6 days and the w/g was fine then.....so something happened...

I wondering if it melted, but my EGT's are 800-1200-ish so its in the ballpark and I'm surely running a bit rich (est. 12.5 stoich)...I'll pull it off tonight, and hopefully the diaphram isn't melted....Can I spray anything in there to help free it if its only sticking???....dumb question but I've never had this problem

But thanks again!

i think i may be misunderstanding, you have a 10psi spring and you are running 10psi without a boost controler is what you are saying? or is it spiking higher than that as if not openning at all?

Its spiking higher than 10psi and and not stopping, and your right its no opening at all.....until tonight that is ...I drove the car down the street, then had a huntch that the Large silicone vacuum hose I was using was getting pinched....I swapped it for another thinner stiffer style vacuum hose and problem solved....Look, I'm as baffled as you are....But I did some hose swapping last weekend and maybe thats what was going on.....Runs kick *** again.....thanks for listening

BTW: that rack on that girl is sooooooooo nice!!

check the silicone line you were using, see if it has any hard or brittle areas, try blowing through it and see what you find. The line may have a hole in it, or it is melted closed. Had one of those cheap silicone hoses blow in half on a Skyline here, heated up and decided to send the turbo close to 24 lbs of boost. not a pretty sight

Mr. Camel,

Thats exactly what happened....I looked at that line I had on there and it was melted inside....F'n bizarre! It works fine now with a new line...... but I ran the line away from the turbo so hopefully that doesn't happen again... I run about 20psi so its tuned for that, but when the w/g doesn't start to do its thing it freaks ya out....especially when the boost was basically off for the clutch break in....Gotta always be on the lookout

Now its time to up the boost again....Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
