I'm curious about this particular turbo; I am not well educated on turbo specs, etc. can anyone describe what to expect for the powerband on a large streetported engine with a 42 with these specs:

56 Trim Compressor Wheel

2.770 in. (70mm) Inducer

3.700 in. (94mm) Major

0.66 A/R Comp. Housing

4" Inlet, 2.5" Outlet

84 Trim Turbine Wheel

3.220 in. (82mm) Major

2.947 in. (75mm) Exducer

1.12 A/R Turbine Housing

Large Frame Inlet

If set for 10 psi, what would one expect for output? Would this need different fuel from, say, a T04 or other turbo? Like I said, I'm not well versed in turbo terminology so any help would be appreciated. This is my first turbo project...I cross-posted this at the other forum...

GT42 is TOO big for just about everything rotary except maybe a large port 20b. That is unless you have a full drag car.

My overall HP expectations are only in the 3-350 range. I want to shoot for reliability and longevity as much as possible.

That being said, what puts me in that range? I definitely look for more midrange than sheer top end. I understand the need for fuel, etc. but not matching the turbo.

I think an Apex'i RX6 would be good for you...but then again I'm an idiot when it comes to turbos.

60-1 with a .81 A/R is a great street turbo and would be good for your power range easy. In the GT series the 28 or 30 would also be about what you are looking for. With an A/R of .8x-.9x, you could go a smaller A/R and have a quicker spool you just need to make sure you have a large enough wastegate to avoid boost creep.

If you really want to know what would work well for you call Garret or Turbonetics or go talk to a local turbo shop. They would be more than willing to help you size a turbo.

Yeah, nothing beats custom sizing for the application.

<---"Wyoming" Not much in the way of turbo shops. I will try calling the ones you've listed, thanks.

Yeah a gt42 is much too large for your application. It is better suited for a BP or PP. The three turbos listed are better suited for what you want. They will spool quicker, and are also much more efficient at 10psi than a GT42 would be.
