Got this back from Justin at DaVinchi today. It looks good to me. They have added a flange, an o2 bung and some flex tube for the dump tube. Here are some from before. Originally there was no flange on the end. It was flared and you can see where I tried to block sand it to get it flat. (Yea great, nice try) As you can imagine it wouldn't seal for ****. Dee was so gracious to notice the obnoxious exhaust leak it had when i limped it up to him the first time.
I know your saying "who gives a **** it's only a down pipe" but i figure the forum has been slow and why not share something. Your comments are welcome. |
Here are the pictures of the corrected part.

Here is the nasty scar I got from trying to get the V band on tight enough to seal it the first time. Wrench slipped and I rammed the top of my hand into the under side of the filler cap. Ouch. I could see a porkchop inside my hand. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

NOT VERY PRETTY BUT IT SHOULD WORK
|
at least this time you have an actual flange welded on... instead of the make believe one that you used to have
|
man you need to take fresh impact pictures of cuts...not a week of healing scare!
BTW why two bung? I have the Innovate to help tune. Is this so the OE O2 can stay in place while tunning. I need to make my DP. |
Good to see they are fixing their mistakes!

It's healed up pretty good now. One bung for a wideband, and the other for the o2. Maybe pointless but it's there none the less. |
as long as it works its def not pretty
|
Looks like some back woods **** but I guess you get what you pay for. I personally would have sent the whole kit back. At least they attempted to fix it. That is all you can really ask for.
Hope it seals this time. |
Once you heat wrap it, its not so bad. Its just a downpipe, doesn't need to be that good looking.
|
yeah.. how often do people check out your downpipe... then comment on its asthetic value? lol
|
Its always nice to know that a certin level of craftsmanship has been put into the parts on your car.
It should work fine and I dont think that it would really make a difference but i'm just sayin... |
i get what youre saying

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif Yeah a few of us wrapped a dp the other day. We starting joking around about polishing it and having it cromed dipped. As long as the flanges line up and it flows good, its a good dp to me, but I can understand where people are coming from too. |
PLEASE just tell me that thing fits this time... PLEASE

Just got the clamp from Chuck today. I will know if it fits tomorrow. |
Hmmmm wrenching scars...
|
Justin I finally got enough free time to put he down pipe back on. It fits. It's still not the greatest fit. The angle on the end is kinda low and makes the union of the mid pipe and the down pipe point downward. I hope that does not create a new exhaust leak. I did not get a chance to fire the car up yet though so no word if it seals well or not. The clamp from Chuck fits very well and I think that it will seal at the turbo. If there are any more problems I will fix them myself. I've got a welder now and been taking classes for a little over a month and I think I can manage. Thanks again for the help getting that fixed man.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683454.gif I don't even know what to say Dave... I tell you what though, I see no reason why we shouldn't cover shipping back to the shop to get it freaking right. This is now the what... 4th setback? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png |

This is now the what... 4th setback? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png I see a reason, I don't think it would be any better. It's on. Im not really worried that much about it. It might seal just fine. I have not started the car. The ony issue is the bottom clearance and really it's not that bad. Not bad enough for me to bother removing and shipping it again. It's about 2" lower than before. Don't sweat it man. It's fine. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |
shipping the pipe 3 times?
wouldnt it have been alot easier to get one made local? |

wouldnt it have been alot easier to get one made local? Absolutely- however; I'm desperately trying to fix the **** ups.. I'm absorbing as much of the cost as possible, although Dave did pay the first round of shipping (thanks Dave). It just sucks when you're (me) the man behind a bunch of disappointments. I never knew what that felt like- until now. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png |
during production if the manifold is off by a few millimeters by the time the downpipe reaches the exaust its off by alot, factor in the downpipe having some variance in it and you see why its very hard to get it all to bolt together for everyone everytime.

Thats all that I was worried about, the info about it being kinda tight and low was just fyi. I am not worried about it Justin. Quit beating yourself up over it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png |

VERY true. I think there may be a slight difference in my and Dave's manifold.. Causing the error.. It would make sense anyway. |

I know - but you and Martin deserve some customer service. And I'll do what I can to get you some. I really appreciate your patience.. I can't wait to get you clowns out for beers - I figure I'll have to buy for at LEAST 2 weeks!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif edit-- spelling!! I suck |
I had a nightmare of a time getting my downpipe to work when I switched single turbo's. It was a real hack job by time I was done, but oh well. Its just the way these things go sometimes.
