When you say efficient what percentage is that? 60 65?
If you look at the flow map on the GT35R and figure the pressure ratio to be 2.973 (29 psi) then move across on the map. This is where the flow in lbs/min comes in. You can tell that the turbo is efficient up to 29 psi and even up to about 32-33 psi boost at 50 lbs/min of air flow. At the 50 lbs/min of flow the turbo would still be about 72% efficient. If your figuring the flow at 60 lbs/min and the boost at 29 psi then the efficiency drops down to just under 65%. At 33 psi boost and 60lbs/min flow it is not too efficient - probably 60%. I hope this answers your question.

It wasn't reliable horsepower. The timing was close to 18 degrees advance and I remember the a/f ratios getting into the mid 11's. At the time my knowledge about tuning was very limited, so I thought it was ok. I was concerned about the aggressive timing though, and asked the tuner to back it off to 15 degrees. A few months later I popped that motor when I hit 10 psi passing another car just cruising to the gym. Later Steve found a -2 degree timing split at 10 psi, 7000 rpm which is right where it blew. I bet what happened was my tuner backed off the leading timing and messed up on the math to keep the trailing in check. I did have the turbo rebuilt, but the car never felt as strong. Even with much better porting and tuning. I estimate it was making about 400-415 rwhp then. I wish I did get a chance to redyno at 20 psi just to see what it would do. As far as I know, no one has broken 500 rwhp. I think I was the closest at 470. Is it enough power? Not for me Don't get me wrong, the 35/40 is plenty for the majority people. I think it is a much better choice than saw an rx-6 or 20g. But I get bored quickly and there are ALOT of fast domestics here in TX. I don't like to lose or even for it to be close...
Just so it is clear I wasn't attacking you, I personally think your one of the good guys, I was just saying it seemed like you were comparing a poor setup motor and tune to better one and then blaming the turbo for the difference, it just didn't sound right to me. It isn't a 500whp street turbo, at least I've never said it was, and that is what really bothers me, because people have gotten on this "35R wont make 500whp" kick and I never said it would, or this turbo is too small, that is all relative to what the user wants out of his car and what the car will be used for.Too small for what? It is a great kit for 90% of the people out there and I wanted to give people something that responded like the RX6 but provided more top end power. It does just that, if you want more power I have other setups 40R,70R, 42R, Think about how many customers you guys have, and of those how many really need more, or better yet are even safe with more, on the street. I think so many of these younger or newer guys, hear the older more experienced guys say what they have, and they gotta have it, with little or no experience of their own or realize that people like Steve, Ralph, Demetrios, you, etc. maybe a little jaded to anything under reasonable. Kinda get what I'm saying?
