if its blowin a lot of white smoke just when you start it up, it may be the fuel injectors. when the car is off there is still pressure in the fuel rails, it doesnt get relieved, so if you have a leaky injector it will empty enough fuel into the chamber to relieve that pressure... when you start the car it will cuase it to blow white smoke for a while (if its not flooded beyond belief). Try just getting your injectors cleaned before going for an engine rebuild

I hope you are right I had read the same thing on another forum. I believe it is worth the cost of a fuel injector to find out. Besides if that doesnt fix it I will be buying another car and using this one for parts because I love these rides. I have a brand new Lincoln Ls sport, A new F-350 diesel and I would still rather drive these cars there just alot of fun to me. Thanks, I will let everyone know if it was the injector or something more serious... Thanks again to everyone.

Just wanted to let everyone know I had only started the car about three times since I had got the car running after it sitting for a year and a half. I started it again Saturday morning and drove it and have done the same three times since it has never smoked one bit I believe that my friend I got the car from was right it was just the oil and stuff burning off where he had put it into the spark plug holes to help it get compression to get it started and he could not get it to start and that oil and starter fluid he had sprayed in there must of had to burned out. So now I am down to finding out what is wrong with the automatic transmission it works fine in 1, 3, 4, and overdrive but it skips 2nd all together. I did notice backing up my driveway once it seemed to slip a little in reverse but all the other gears are very strong I have run it hard to make sure they were not slipping. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. And just to let you know I have tried shifting it manually thru 1, 2, drive, & overdrive and it will still not go into 2nd if you have any ideas let me know thanks.

You should have let us know that from the get go.. Otherwise we are assuming everything USED to be OK when you were driving it all the time, and suddenly you have a smoke problem..

NO

That is the split air pipe, and the exhaust backpressure provides adequate pressure to open your fifth and sixth ports. Separate air circuit. Intake air is NOT supplied to the exhaust. Catalytic converters clog from age and use. Nothing to do with the split air line.

Smoke is NOT caused by your catalytic converter. Smoke is PREVENTED by your catalytic converter.

I WOULD recommend finding someone else to repair your coolant seal, chances are they know how to repair it better than a do-it-yourself-er would. Rotary engine rebuilders are NOT rare.

In a series 4 it provides backpressure, in a series 5, intake air is supplied to the catalytic converter.

smoke is not caused OR prevented by the catalytic converter!

Sorry I am mostly S4 backround, I just got a little heated over hearing that my smoke problems were caused by my cat...
