yes, but they have good reasoning and thought to back up their theories
yah thats great people think the split air pipe actually does something too. its all well and good to come up with a theory, i like to do that especially tuning, but at some point you have to verify, and to do that you need to go and look at the car

If all they can do is have good reasoning but still come up with nothing then they're ideas are just as useless. They just are trying their damnedest to come up with a good reason why they're so weak. I have no love for the car so I have no motivation to come up with a well reasoned out explanation.

With their good reasoning why the car might be so weak - who are they trying to convince? Others or themselves. Hmmmm...

oo thats deep; themselves of course. fd owners do that too but in a different way

Yeah I was wondering what magic trick they were trying to pull in order to get 90 more horsepower out of a NA 2 rotor. I agree with you Jim, the **** is going to hit the fan when people realize the power is damn near 50 horses lower than advertised. I am not a huge fan of the rx8 to begin with, but I did like the whole concept and the new engine design. However now that the engine isn't all it was built up to be, it really takes away from the big picture. Mazda produced the cosmo 3 rotor, what is keeping them from doing something similar? Or even going with more displacement on a 2 rotor, like a 14 or 15b? The 13b is old news, its been around for years and its become obvious there is only so much power you can squeze out of it no matter what porting, exhaust, timing configurations you have.
considering it's been like 10 yrs since mazda's last NA rotary and the rise in technological advances and the amount of unknown years that mazda has been researching the renesis, i think it is quite possible to sqeeze 250 hp out of an NA 2 rotor.

again, honda can do it with a 2 liter NA, no reason mazda cant do it with a 2 rotor NA...

where's your loyalty and support for mazda? do you not want to see another new rx-7?

I think Honda pumping out that much HP from a 2 liter PISTON engine is different than Mazda pumping out that much HP from a ROTARY engine.

With piston engines there are a lot more variables that you can play around with... valve timing/size, bore size, stroke, compression, etc.

With a rotary, its a lot more simple so there are only so many variable that you can play with.

What? Port timing can be altered hence the benifit of porting the rotaries we already know. Lift can't really be altered, but the rotary already flows better because there isn't a valve to obstruct the entering airflow. Valve size is roughly equiv. to port size for comparisons sake.

Bore can be altered by making a wider rotor & rotor housing, Stroke can be altered by making a longer rotor face which would be a bigger triangle & more teeth in the planetary gear.

I know it's not apples & apples, but to say the rotary is too simple & there aren't as many things to vary is simply BS!

Interesting... thanks for educating the un-educated.

AMEN! That is simply what I was saying. I like the RX-8 and I am really disapointed when I heard what people were getting on the dyno. No need to blow a gasket over this.

I have seen and heard 250 HP N/A engines and they idle like **** and are dead below 8K RPM and you need to rev them to 12K RPM. to hit the power band.

I was amazed when I heard that Mazda got 90 More HP out of the 1.3L block. When my brother walked into my office he told me they dyno'd a RX-8 and I was expecting to hear 230-240 RWHP I was so disapointed when he told me 178. Damn! Pettit had a ITS RX-7 on their dyno with 160 RWHP!!

To say Mazda would not risk lying then explain the Miata. I dont need to back **** up anyway I have actual Dyno numbers. I would be grasping for an answer if I just dropped 30K on a car with the came HP as the new Civic-R too.

I am a hard core Rotary fanatic trust me nothing would make me happier than to see some big numbers from the RX-8.

BTW - I am not a Jackass I am an *******. I love when people reach the threshhold of their intellect and resort to namecalling. I am by far no scholar but I have enough respect for others not to call them jackasses.

statin good reasoning and thought

all speculative and assumptions ... as its bein done here as well

how does one actually back up with that..

id reconsider your lumped jackass statement...

and imho loyalty need not be questioned here..
