revving rpm's

I heard that it's good for your engine to rev your rpm's to 6000 every day to maintain a healthy engine.

Can anyone confirm this?

^^^ True but it's not like it has to be driven to redline all the time, just once or twice every time you drive the car to prevent carbon deposits from forming and possibly creating problems.



Also, rotaries are much more resistant to high rpm driving compared to piston cars.

You are supposed to rev it to red line at least once a day to clean carbon buildup.

Your 8 shouldn't have a problem with carbon buildup unless your running 87 octane in it and that's a no no.

you bumped your head, man. first off, 87 will give you less carbon buildup. second, the renny's build up sickly amounts of carbon--thank the side ports for that one. haven't you seen the pics i've posted on the 8 forum?

87 octane makes you go faster too! Crazy *** rotaries



I wouldnt worry about wearing your engine out from anything less than redline. Just drive the crap out of your car and enjoy it, keep the oil changed very regularly, if you want to add alittle 2 stroke oil to every gas tank that might be good, it doesnt need very much though. I have an n/a DSM that i beat on like the dirty ***** that it is everyday, gas pedal to the floor when i accelerate (always), and redline in every gear until i reach the speed limit (she's kinda slow), but i keep the oil changed and she hasnt had any problems in a long long time, and never anything serious. Pushing 190,000 miles. Rotaries are very reliable if you take care of them right, clearances on most of the wear items dont matter as much in a rotary as they do with piston engines, less moving parts too. Just dont let your rotary overheat, keep oil changed, and stay on top of possible problems, just get to know your car.



Seriously, every Rx8 NEEDS, stiff ENGINE MOUNTS, a VENTED HOOD, better ducting in front of the radiator, and really a computer that doesnt freak out, but the stock one is fine as long as you dont expect much of it. No mods will make much power, probably ever, but at least not until the computer gets use to your mods which might take a month. For a few weeks you may make less power.



I wouldnt own one without the things in all caps! For a vented hood to be beneficial you have to get rid of some other stuff too, figure it out. The air behind the radiator has alot of trouble leaving the engine bay though and this is a problem for the rx8s.



Without changing your fuel management you will see the most improvement from suspension mods (springs, struts, bushings, etc), lighter rotating parts (including wheels), lightening the car, and stiffening the car.

whats it need the stuff in caps for?



btw they did update the engine mounts, the older ones feel like the engine is on the frame

30% of the rx8s sold have overheated and blown up = needs vented hood for air to escape, better ducting in front of the radiator would help too, but air gets into the engine bay and has no where to go.



The engine mounts are liquid and they arent stiff enough to keep the engine from torquing and cracking the lower intake mani on the subfram = needs stiffer engine mounts (we went a while without realizing the manifolds were cracked and all of our mounts were leaking on 3 cars)

OVerheating?!?!??!?! What!?!? Link to any of this? Do we really need an induction hood or is there an alternate way of cooling it?
