Hey, nothing wrong with a sporty grocery getter. The rx8 is a nice car, but nothing i'd waste spending money on trying to make go faster. I'd buy it and drive it with the family.

Sadly by seeing the Rx-8 I see a less likly chance of their ever being another 7. Unless they can imporve the reliability and most of all fuel economy then the Rotary will once again be a thing of the past. I would hate to see people giving me the finger for driving one thinking that I support Bin Laden or Saddam everytime I fill it up. From what I am noticing people are buying cars for economical reasons now. Theirs not too many people out their who can afford a "sporty grocery getter" and fill it up on a weekly basis. Bottom line....It still isnt a practical car.

Mazda would be better off keeping rotaries in true sports cars, at least untill they can squeze out 25-30mpg. No one wants to buy a gas guzzlin car for normal daily use.

 

Well, it will do well. In time that success will lead to more rotary powered cars geared towards other demographics. More specifically, sports cars. The RX-8 might not be for everybody. But hopefully it will lead to cars that performance junkies will accept wholeheartedly.

 

the rx8 is not a replacement for the rx7! i think it will sell very well. i can't wait to drive one..... like j9 said its gonna be like my old 89 GTU. never breaks and very fun to beat on. not the fastest car out there but handles good has enough power and can take more than one passenger

 

I bought one, and I love. It handles with the best of them, better then a 3rd gen, which says alot. I would't say it's slow by any means. I've been nice to mine so far, only taking it to 7K, and I don't have a real sense on the power yet until I can take it to 9K. Every time I look at it I admire the lines of the car, exquisite, far better then anything close to it's price range. I tested the competition, 350Z, 330ci, IS300, STi, and the WRX (I haven't tested the EVO), and none of those cars comes close to a better overall package. I think the 8 is a winner for sure, but I must be biased because I bought one.

i think we can compare this to the RX4. a *sporty car* that would never be anyones IDEAL race car. i have driven it and love it. you cant go into it thinking that it is a replacement for the rx7.... its another rotary powered car.... be thankful they actualy had ford allow them to try it out...

 

i have heard that mazda is geared up to make about 40,000 rx8's a year vs the fd's 68,000 in 12 years

Holy Crap......Thats alot of cars. I seriously think they are gonna have a couple sitting in the lots by the end of the year. Also the price will most likely go down with the 2005 models.
