I need help!

Okay, so here's the deal... I purchased my 04 rx8 in May 08. July of 08 had a refurbed motor put in because of the lack of power. Two weeks later my steering locked up on me while making right hand turns. (the steering wheel would NOT turn to the left)... Unless I put all my little 115 lbs into cranking the wheel to the left as hard as I could. When I did that I heard a loud popping/cracking noise in the front end. After that the car drove fine. I took it back to the dealership and they told me that they would need to "recreate" the problem before they could fix it. Well, it doesn't do it all the time.... Weather or temp don't determine when it will do it.... It has also done this twice while cruising down the hwy at around 90mph. Kinda scary right??? What do you think that it maybe?? Power steering or rack and pinion??? Could they have damaged something while installing the engine?? It locked up on me for the 7th time on saturday... I took it immediately to the dealership... I threw a HUGE bitch fit... I finally got a VOLVO mechanic to duplicate the issue... I need some info so that I can be on top of my game when they call me with the news....
thank you..... girl in crisis...

I would look into the lemon law in Colorado, my guess on a safety issue it's pretty strict, usually three times, no fix and they have to buy the car back under the lemon law, in some states like I say it's even more strict then that on safety issues.
That's BS, it's beyond unsafe to have a car you can't steer.

yeah youd think they could turn the wheel until it did it again....
the steering is simple on these, its basically either the rack is gone or the control unit, or the little wiring harness between em. the little harness is easy to check, and it would be the thing that got damaged/put away wrong if something happened when they did the motor.

the PS pump on my vette is fried and it looses pressure on occasion, when it quits pumping, it's all my 175lb *** can do to turn the wheel. This is about a once every 6 weeks or so issue for me. I suspect that they may damaged your PS pump during the engine swap..
