Hot Rx8
#1
Today as I was heading home from work, the A/C was loosing its effectiveness. When the car was moving it cooled ok, but as soon as I stopped all that came out was warm air. I let it sit at idle to see if it would cycle cold/hot like it did last summer before I got the TSB amplifier installed. It just blew really warm air. It didn't really bother me, but I decided to bring it in to the dealer. I took it to Quirk in Quincy. The highway ride was ok, the A/C worked alright, but as soon as I got off the highway and into traffic, the A/C started doing it's hot air thing. I glanced down at the guages and noticed the coolant temp needle almost into the red. I immediately turned on the heat full blast.....well a lot of babying and killing the engine when not needed to move got me to the dealer. It didn't boil over or anything but it sure ran hot. I hope the Mobil1 did it's thing and protected the motor enough. I think it's the cooling fan, I haven't heard it running, and the car's temp and A/C works fine as long as the car is moving. We'll see what needs to be replaced or fixed.....I really want the car for Sunday's autocross.....damn!!
edit: It got as hot as the red line on the guage in the pic.
I don't think I did any permanent damage...it didn't stay at that hot for long....

[quote name='Dazy' date='Jun 8 2005, 09:59 PM']Isn't moble1 a synthetic oil? We're not supposed to use synthetic...

What, who said that? I'm one of those people that believes synthetic is ok in rotaries. I've used it in all my previous rotaries. The RX8 doesn't even use much anyway. It'll be fine. The 2 dealers that have done service on my car said it was ok to use synthetic also.
If you haven't any doubt then just use the regular stuff and change it regularly.
I change mine every 2500 miles....even with the synthetic.

it wont be a debate, the mazda rep told all of the salesmen at the local dealer (i was there bc i was checking out the first shipment) that they recommend syn. for the renesis. i dont remember why, but he made it a point to say that for the rx7s they said not to use it, but to use it for renesis
