they wont let a 18 year old kid drive one by himself, maybe wont even let you drive one period.

We bought a Mazda 6 that night, so I got to pretty much do what I wanted. We bought the 6 after I drove both, if the RX-8 drive better, I would have ended up with that car.

I can thank Mini for building the car I ordered with the wrong colored roof for my trip to the Mazda dealer, Im sure the Mazda 6 will be much more practical then the Mini anyhow.
So how did the Mazda6 compare to the RX-8 as far as acceleration?? Did they feel about the same. When I drove the Mazda6 at the Mazda-Rev-It-Up it was pretty peppy for an Auto. It took a couple of seconds to get going then took off pretty good.

I hated its handling though. Of course I was frustrated trying to Autocross it after being used to my well sorted RX-7. I am not doubting you as you drove back to back. But man if you are saying the Mazda6 was every bit as good as the RX-8,....wow... thats all I can say.

I dont know how I miised it in your thread. You bought a Mini and did not take delivery of it?? Sorry to hear that, that must have been frustrating them screwing up your order.

I pick mine up tomarrow. Its red with whote roof and mirrors I had them pull off the bonet stripe and put the black check pattern on the roof.

Not I have to wait for my backordered JCW Kit.

Basically it goes like this, I was ready to spend the money on the RX-8, I drove both cars, the deal I got on the 6 blew the RX-8 out of the water, but if the RX8 was faster, I would have went for it. I beat the hell out of it and whenever I looked down I was just not going fast.

I got into the Mazda 6 for $100 less a month, and had to put almost no money down, they wanted upwards of $450 a month for a RX8, and they wanted "at least $3000-$4000" down. They had quite a few RX8s there to pick from, they arent giving "deals" on the RX8, I told the salesman if he could get me into the RX8 for $400 a month I would take it, but he said it was a no-go right now because the car was so new.

I can get out of the Mazda 6 at any time and trade it in for something else, its that new thing that replaces leasing, smart buy, preffered buy, whatever the hell they call it.

But honestly the RX8 needed 50 more HP at least.

And I dont want to hear how I can mod it, the car is 2900 lbs with 250 hp, it should be faster.

waited since Memorial day weekend for the car, it came in with a white roof, first I ordered white roof, then after I got approved for financing later in the week, I changed it to a red roof. every one I see has the white roof. Now the car came in with a white roof. I am so aggrevated with it I dont even want the car anymore, too late anyhow, I pick the 6 up this weekend, added it to the insurance policy today.

Yeah a lot of them have white roofs. Being in Florida white roof was a no brainer for me. But I added the checkered pattern to the roof to be different. I almost did the British Flag but bailed. The Black White checkered flag is me I race SCCA and I am hoping to get my Novice Track license this winter.

I like the Mazda6 its funny too because your a perfect example of why Mazda needed the extra 50 HP in the RX-8. I am so tired of looking on the RX-8 forun and seeing these guys that have the RX-8's already saying their car is plenty fast for them. WTF? These guys have no clue what fast is. They are a perfect target consumer for Mazda to aim for. It seems like conservatives trying to be cool are buying them. Those rebels!!! Going radical with a rotary!!!

it boiled down to the fact that I want more car for my money, I wont buy a RX8 to try to be cool, I would buy it because I like it, and honestly it didnt seem worth the money at all.

True, it seems a lot of these guys bought the car based on how cool they would look. Now they aren't looking too cool and they are going to pretend its everything they thought it would be.

You wont look too cool when some 60 y/o man in his Honda Accord walks you when your trying to merge on him.

I am going to the Mazda dealership this weekend to take an RX-8 for a spin. I am going under the premise that I need a family car. I'll take my pregnant wife to add to the premise.

it seems more like an N/A FC... as far as power wise... maybe we should think of it like that ? quick but not fast ?

I have an 8, it is plenty fast, for those who haven't driven it yet. And, uh the 6 is no where near this much fun, lets be real, it's a nice family car but it's no where near the same kind of car. I traded a 00 Maxima SE for the 8 and in my opinion if I wanted a traditional 4 door sports car I'd have stuck with another Maxima, better build quality than the 6 for sure and it's got loads of power and style... but anyway.

I'm hearing alot of talk here from people who don't actually own or drive the car or just can't afford it. I'll start posting some real footage of the car on the road and track against other cars and we'll see what comments arise. I'm not old and I'm not conservative. I have a ZZR1200 that I ride daily and it's more than fast for me if I really, really want to stomp someones *** on the freeway but that's not what a daily driven sports car is about now is it. I has great utility and is still sporty. It's my wife's daily driver, I can put a child seat in the back and still beat the pants off most cars on the road when the road gets curvey. And I've yet to get walked by an Accord.

Yes, I have put it up against other cars. I raced my buddy tonight in an 01 Vette with a Borla Cat Back and CAI. I got killed in the rolling start but the 8 did more than I expected from a dead stop. I'll be posting the mpegs soon.

Who pays sticker price for a car, are you new to the planet, if you can't get the car for 3k less than sticker you shouldn't be buying a new car. Christ the interest rates alone tell you how bad they need your business.

If you're looking for straight line power to 140 why do you drive a car? Get a motorcycle and a big one at that, but I'd guess from the tone of this discussion you'd go with some squid 600 with stickers and neon colors. If you want a sports car you need to look at all around sporting, that includes corners and this car handles like a dream. Yes it is fast and yes it is short on HP that Mazda claimed. It's still fast and the tested track times are still accurate, HP shortage or not. I'm in San Diego and more than willing to place my stock 8 against any other stock car in it competitive category. I've got the borla exhaust on order and hopefully he'll put out a header soon and to add to the sound and power band but until then I'm more than happy with my car. It's unique and more than luxurious for us. I hope to see you on the road..... albeit in my rear view!

Happy motoring!
