So they are pulling the whole warranty if you have any engine / power mods? As in, you add a header and your door panel falls off, that problem is no longer something they will have to deal with? Thats pretty lame.

Well, I can't speak for Mazda, but Subaru is super super ****. I had one tire fail on me when I had appx 10k miles on the car. I replaced that tire and then took it in for an oil change and they said that if I didnt change ALL my tires so they would all be the same wear, they would void my warranty. The difference between the new and old tires was negligable. So, I ended up getting 4 new tires when I didnt have to.
Now, it could have just been the dealer, who knows. But, the moral of the story is that if you have anything that is obviously not stock and you think it may come into question, don't bring the car into the dealer in that condition. Many of the subaru dealers document mods in the notes of the work order of a regular service and it came come back and bite you when the car breaks.
With the WRX it wouldnt be such a problem for minor mods, but so many kids go out and mod the hell out of them, blow them up (engine/tranny.) When they to get it warrantied and Subaru of North America gets all bent out of shape and cracks down on the dealers that does the claims. Hopefully the RX8 won't be as bad as it with the WRX...

Yup same goes for me. I have a 2003 subaru legacy GT. I was advised by my local subaru club that when u bring the car in to the dealer it has to look 100% stock. I had two complaints. One was a deffective steering wheel where in it wasn't perfectly round. I got that replaced. My second was that all the brake rotors were warped. I didn't even hammer on the car. Needless to say it was the middle of winter and I was advised to go take off the snow steelies and witner tires and mount the alloys and re92s for that one day before I take it back to teh dealer. Apprently legacy GTs like to eat rotors up. A person had the similar problem with me and when he showed up in snow tires and steelies the dealership said that he improperly torqued his lug nuts and caused the rotors to warp and thereby denying his claim.

And if enough of you do that, they will take the rotary from us again. Nothing personal, just food for thought.
