Default 88 NA Hybrid Build /w Cermet A-B Motor...(Finally parting ways with my first car)

Here is my baby... A 1988 NA SE with a custom rebuilt multi-generational motor/intake/drive-train setup.
I completed most of the work in the first four years after I bought the car in '04(the motor was finished in the summer of 07 and I've only put 12,400 miles on it since then)

I'm really fond of this car, but I know I won't be able to hold on to it much longer. For the past three years she has sat most of the time in the driveway unused while I worked away from home, spending and loosing money on other projects/commitments.

In September of '04 I found her sitting neglected under some pine trees with the motor stuffed in the trunk, and decided to intervene...
My plan was to learn as much as I could through the process and try to improve power, efficiency, and reliability; something that I could drive cross-country and still have fun with on the weekends...
I'd say mechanically and electrically it's 90% done.(I can't afford to send the ECU to Rtek and finish upgrading the suspension ATM). And as you can see, I've been saving the external body/appearance for last...

I just took a very enjoyable trip with it up and through the twists and turns of the NC mountains a couple weeks ago and averaged 22-26mpg round-trip.

The car lives in NE Georgia, 30643, atm...

Now for the rundown on my creation... I still have receipts and a basic work log(over 700hrs) for most of this stuff(it doesn't look it on the outside, but I have spent around $8000 so far on parts, cermet resurfacing, and miscellaneous work I couldn't do myself).

Short Block:

Original S4 NA rotating components(including counterweight because the car was an automatic).
* Polished rotors.
* Teardroped E-shaft oil galleries.
* New stock bearings lightly clearanced.

Original S4 Irons.
* Cermet A coating by JHB Performance.
* Oil galleries radiused.
* Pump cavities shaped and smoothed to near-polish.
* EGR blocked off.
* Front housing top oil feed plug drilled and tapped.
* Stock intake ports smoothed out and flow matched(not enlarged much at all, just raised maybe 2 mil and given a slight radius).

S5 NA Rotor housings.
* Cermet B coating by JHB performance.
* Water jackets grooved.
* NA exhaust sleeve baffles cut out and roof of sleeve lowered to improve flow into headers.

New Renesis stationary gears with renesis multi-window bearings.
* Matched and radiused oil galleries.
* New factory bolts.

New FD oil pressure regulator.

New Mazda thick shaft tension bolts.
* Silicone spiraled during assembly.

All seals and o-rings new from Mazda.
* 2-piece Mazda apex seals.
* FD corner seal springs.
* Competition oil seal springs.
* Long side seals lapped to length by hand.

New metering oil injectors.

Front Housing & Components:
* New oil pump chain.
* New turbo oil pump.
* New bearing plate and competition thrust bearings.
* Washered thermo pellet.
* Oil galleries radiused and smoothed.
* OMP converted to 2-cycle oil injection and lines rebuilt.

Oil and cooling System work/mods:
* Oil lines rebuilt.
* Custom made sandwich block for front bearing oil feed and future remote bypass filter and gauges.
* Custom made SS oil baffle plate.
* KOYO Racing aluminum radiator fit with custom made brackets.
* Custom thermostat neck cap block-off with bleeder.

Intake/Fuel/Exhaust system work/mods:
* Converted to S5 intake, AFM, fuel rails, and vac nest.
* All manifolds port matched.
* New Silicone vacuum lines throughout.
* Dynamic chamber and VDI manifold runners given internal drag-reducing coating.
* Throttle body modded, ported, and polished.
* AWS and EGR Removed/blocked-off.
* S4 BAC valve modified to fit S5 VDI intake.
* Adapted S4 wiring harness to fit S5 intake setup and integrated custom made rpm switch control of VDI and 6-ports.
* Pineapple racing 6-port inserts.
* AEM cone filter.
* Custom made Stainless steel long tube 2-1 header and mid-pipe.
* Borla SS catback system.
* Upgraded to heated O2 sensor.
* New fuel pump.

Electrical work/mods:
* Custom made battery-starter-alternator harness with heavy gauge wires.
* Retrofit remanufactured Ford 3G alternator(fuel cut system adapted to alternator lamp output after swapping in S5 AFM).
* Manual fuel pump switch to combat cold start flooding.
* 5sp gauge cluster conversion(installed with car's original odometer swapped in).
* Custom made dual control IC rpm switch for VDI and 6-port activation.
* Shielded 3-wire heated O2 sensor signal harness direct to ECU.
* Fixed cold solder joints in idiot cluster.

Driveline/suspension work/mods:
* Conversion from Automatic trans to S5 5spd manual(kept the auto's slightly taller rear diff).
* F1 stage 3 ceramic clutch.
* Fidanza lightweight flywheel.
* Power steering permanently deleted.
* Front sub-frame repainted with POR15.
* Competition engine and transmission mounts.
* New Energy Suspension Urethane front suspension/swaybar bushings(I also have the remaining uninstalled bushings for the rear suspension).
* A-arms polished.
* SS Braided Brake and clutch lines.
* Rebuilt front and rear brakes(new front pads/rotors less than 600mi ago).
* New slave cylinder(clutch fluid flushed and replaced with ATF).

Other work/mods:
* New hardware/nuts-bolts used throughout the majority of the rebuild and assembly.
* A lot of extra detail/painting work went into the motor and intake.
* Salvaged and repaired sunroof.
* Removed 10lbs of sound deadening material while I had the interior out and reinsulated floorpan with lightweight foil-faced stuff.
* AC system flushed and retrofitted with Enviro-Safe(r) (blows cold, but does struggle on hot Southern summer days in traffic)

Notable negatives:
* The body is in about the same fair condition from when I rescued it(1-2 small spots of rust,dead paint, several little dings/dents).
* Permanent air filter mounting and cold air box haven't been fabbed yet.
* Many missing/broken/crappy interior pieces.
* Something broke the rear left blinker lens last month.
* The wiper switch only works on low speed.
* Some of the lights in the center air/ac controls are out(but all the controls still work).
* The reverse lights quit working years ago(an easy fix I just haven't bothered with).
* The fuel tank seems to have some rusted/failed baffles(If I drive aggressively with <1/4 tank she sputters now and then).
* The motor likes to seep oil after being run and leaves a few drips overnight.
* The water pump developed a leak and I used a leak-stopper to mitigate the nuisance(because I'm broke and have zero overheating/plugging worries with the over-sized cooling system).
* If the car sits for a few days/week it can be a little hard to start, will lightly smoke for about a minute, and I think sometimes that I smell antifreeze(but have had absolutely no signs of compromised coolant seals i.e. overpressure/exhaust bubbles/oil residue in the coolant system)
* The factory stereo crapped out not long ago, the power antenna doesn't work, and the rear amp-speakers are blown(but I have new speakers and a replacement stereo/CD player I am planning to install when I have the time).

That's about it. I'm sure I still missed a few things... pics to follow.

I really have no idea what I should expect to get, but for sale it must be. I could ask all day long for what I think it's worth, but I doubt anyone would even consider it...

I'll be advertising locally and possibly ebay as well... feel free to pm me with questions/offers. I usually get back to people within 24hrs.

Thanks,

Phil

Bump...

I also have a couple boxes of miscellaneous used parts, everything needed to install cruise control, and an S4 transmission of unknown condition.

$2,800 sounds pretty damn good to me(IMO it's easily worth double in the parts under the hood)

There is a possibility that I'll be in NJ/PA the first-second week of April with my car... in and around 08865 (Phillipsburg, NJ/Easton, PA)

I've had a few people tell me I should hold on to it(being my first car and all the work I've put into it), and just mothball it until I'm better situated and can actually finish the project... but I'm moving in March and will be working through the summer in Alaska, and then busting my hump through fall/winter to complete a degree. There's just not enough time/money left for me to think about trying to hold on to her anymore...

Whelp,
I guess I had too much fun last weekend... It appears that a coolant seal has let go. I went to move the car to a different spot in the driveway the other morning and discovered the coolant reservoir was overflowing after a couple minutes of idling... I almost went with aftermarket HD water seals when I rebuilt it, and now I really wish that I had! So much for Mazda OEM reliability...

It would be easy to pull the motor and redo the soft seals, but (unless by some miracle) I just don't have the means to accomplish the task...

$1800 OBO?
