I Still Need An Engine For My 87 Tii
#4
anybody have some suggestions...if they dont have an engine for me? is it stupid to buy a used motor...i've heard that its a total crapshoot...even if you test compression...oh...that reminds me...can you test compression before putting in motor?

You can test the motor for compression by just turning it by hand, but not #'s......you basically can just see if all faces of the rotor are making compression. Turn the flywheel, should here 1 chug for every half rotation of flywheel.

for about the price of a reman + install fees you can get the motor built right by an experienced shop and installed and tuned correctly. it just ain't worth it to buy a used turbo rotary motor. too many things can be wrong and its hard to spot unless the car is running.
