I am in the process of buying a 1972 Mazda rx-2. I am not new to the rotary world and am wondering about buying parts. It is setup with a complete rx-7 drivetrain. (12A) Its has a Weber carb setup right now which I love and will never give it up. But my question is if I am looking for an exhaust am I giong to look for the exhaust for the rx-2 (body style) or for the 79-85 rx-7 (engine). thanks for all the help!!! When I am done with the purchase I will post pics!!!

The RX-2 came with the 12A as stock, so I'd think the RX-2 exhaust would be what you're after.

Any competent exhaust shop can plumb it from engine to exit, probably for less than the parts will cost you. Go to a place that does performance work. You can specify what parts you want. Tell them you want a nice Borla stainless muffler!

Don't let them put a crappy muffler on it, or it won't last.

my old exhaust was so simple it was rediculious. if you have ever welded you can make it in a mater of minutes. for a n/a 13b i cut the 12a headers i had and streched them out. and it was a striaght pipe all the way back to an rx4 muffler.

Hi,

I have a 73 RX-2 coupe w/ a 85 13b, you can't order a complete exhaust for an RX-7..........it won't fit! You can use the Racingbeat muffler and headers though!! from the headers to the muffler you need to run two pre silencers (road race style). RX-2's are not known for their exhaust clearance so make sure you get a good shop to do all your custom work! I am using a magnaflow muffler because it sounds alot meaner than the racing beat and it can hold up to the heat.

BTW: the 12A that came in the RX-2 was very different than the 74 12a. The exhaust ports were closer together and the starter was top mount. all the ports were alot smaller than the desirable 74 12A. Good luck
